We have just received news of our longest ever Corn Bunting movement. It was ringed using the thermal imager on the Marlborough Downs on 26/10/2020 as a juvenile male. It was photographed on a @GWCT Partridge project near Winchester on 18/5/22 - 61 miles away 569 days later!

First check of Tawny Owl boxes for the year. This is the second year in the row that this female has nested in this box. The nestling is one of the most beautiful owlets we have ever seen.

Another 51 Yellowhammers ringed this morning means that in three sessions at this site, we have ringed over 200 of them. There are about 4-500 present! Today we also ringed a record 4 adult Stock Doves - the forgotten farmland bird!

My dad passed away last night, just under 3 months after my mum. They both were amazing and gave me so many opportunities in life, along with love, support and guidance. They were also such great friends to have too. I miss them both so much, but they are together again now.

It's mid 2nd broods & it was the biggest day of the season with a quite brilliant 93 Tree Sparrow nestlings ringed from 18 broods. This is 5.2 per nest which is phenomenal, mind you we ringed four broods of 7! Checking Swift boxes & what do we find? You guessed it Tree Sparrows!

@AliDriverUK @MRewilding I've managed to tweak HLS and CS prescriptions to accommodate early stage rewilding (first five years) in a format acceptable to NE and RPA. I'll send something to you by email, feel free to share.

@MRewilding They don’t necessarily need to do much on the ground, but for many who are switching from large scale intensive farming to rewilding they need to access stewardship payments and in future ELMS payments to make it financially viable.

Hey up #rewilding Twitterati ! Increasingly landowners are contacting us for advice on rewilding. I usually advise they contact Natural England to help them transition via stewardship applications, but often NE can't help due to resource constraints. Anyone had better experience?

Interesting session monitoring Sparrows on Marlborough Downs. 14 ringed & 33 retrapped with the local movements shown on the map showing nos ringed as nestlings & retrapped at the red site today. Total 125 birds caught included 3 superb Corn Buntings, a Kestrel & a Fieldfare.
