As part of its 3Q earnings release, Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg released his opening remarks, his first public comments since taking over the company in August. The remarks outline overarching themes on culture, execution and cleaning up Boeing’s balance sheet, including “streamlining the portfolio” an allusion to shedding programs and company functions. Key except: “While we are somewhat consumed with the challenges of today, we need to be setting the foundation of the future for Boeing. Boeing is an airplane company and at the right time in the future we need to develop a new airplane. But we have a lot of work to do before then. This includes stabilizing our business, improving execution on the development programs, streamlining the portfolio to do what we do well and restoring the balance sheet so that we do have a path to the next commercial aircraft. We need to reset priorities and create a leaner, more focused organization.”

@flighty when will you update your data base? On a recently flight you “warned” me of a change in equipment that may affect my seat assignments. Fortunately I did not call my airline as there was no actual change.

Starliner CFT: Before the Starliner departs, the station astronauts are expected to rig makeshift seating for Wilmore and Williams aboard the Crew 8 Dragon, which arrived at the ISS last March; the Crew 8 Dragon will serve as as an emergency lifeboat for its 4-member crew, along with Wilmore and Williams, until the Crew 9 Dragon arrives; the Crew 8 fliers, wrapping up their own 6-month tour of duty, are expected to head home around Oct. 1 (4/4)
