This exceptional Liverpool team has raised the bar to levels never previously seen before in the history of football. Between Feb 27 '19 & Feb 24 '20 our record from 38 games was: W36 D2 L0 - 110pts from 114 in a rolling season. This level of consistency will never be beaten.

Seventh with be in the Champions League if Liverpool and Aston Villa win European trophies and finish fifth and sixth (either order).
Adam Hall@adamrylandhall

@DaleJohnsonBBC For a fan wanting Newcastle to push for europa or CL, what’s the best case scenario for them with European and domestic cup winners? Who should I route for?

@espenstrand @Aston8210 @DaleJohnsonBBC This just highlights the problems with using AI -they make mistakes, and there are lots in this post. If Liverpool came 5th and won the CL, they do not take the EPS. Likewise Villa in 6th. So it would go down to 7th.

Can Newcastle qualify to the UCL if they finish 7th, if Liverpool and Aston Villa win European trophies and finish fifth and sixth (either order) Yes, Newcastle could qualify for the Champions League (UCL) by finishing 7th, but it would require a highly specific and unprecedented "perfect storm" of results. Under the new UEFA "Swiss Model" format introduced for the 2024/25 season, the Premier League can potentially send up to seven teams to the Champions League. The Requirements for 7th Place to Qualify For Newcastle to qualify from 7th, the following conditions must all be met: England earns an Extra Performance Spot (EPS): The Premier League must be one of the top two performing nations in Europe this season (based on collective club coefficients). This normally grants a UCL spot to 5th place. The UCL Winner finishes outside the top 5: The team that wins the Champions League must finish 6th or lower in the Premier League. Their title win grants them an automatic UCL spot as an "extra" place. The UEL Winner finishes outside the top 5 (and not as UCL winner): The team that wins the Europa League must also finish 6th or lower in the Premier League. Like the UCL winner, they earn an automatic "extra" spot. Applying Your Scenario (Liverpool and Aston Villa) In your specific scenario where Liverpool and Aston Villa win European trophies and finish 5th and 6th: If Liverpool (5th) wins the UCL: Their Champions League spot is not passed down. Because they already qualified via their league position (which, in this scenario, includes the 5th-place EPS), no extra spot is created for the league. If Aston Villa (6th) wins the UEL: They would take a 6th UCL spot for England. However, this does not "bump" the league's allocated spots down further to 7th. Result: In this specific scenario, Newcastle in 7th would not qualify for the UCL. They would likely qualify for the Europa League or Conference League instead. Summary of Potential European Spots The distribution of spots typically follows this hierarchy, assuming England receives the 5th-place EPS: League Position Typical CompetitionWith UCL/UEL Winners Outside Top 5 1st - 4thChampions LeagueChampions League 5thChampions League (EPS)Champions League (EPS) 6thEuropa LeagueChampions League (if they win UCL or UEL) 7thConference LeagueChampions League (if they win the other trophy) For 7th place to become a UCL spot, the teams in 1st through 5th must be "standard" qualifiers, while the teams finishing specifically in 6th and 7th must be the ones who won the Champions League and Europa League respectively. ESPN ESPN +3 Would you like to see how the FA Cup result might further shift these European places into 8th or 9th?

@RedDevilStudioX @DaleJohnsonBBC No, they only have to finish outside the top 4 to qualify for the Champions League as title holders. The EPS gets added last and goes to the highest team that hasn't already qualified for the Champions League. So in this scenario 7th place would take that extra spot.

@SpaceToffee @DaleJohnsonBBC Huh? The PL is most likely set to get 5 UCL spots based on their UEFA coefficent. You can get 7 Champions league teams IF Liverpool and Villa finish outside the top 5 and win there European trophies respectively. That is the only circumstance.

“It’s not me” says the guy who danced with the Brentford home crowd and spitefully put the spotlight on Arsenal’s photographer the last time they beat Liverpool. Say what you want big dawg, we know you’ll be a good little boy next time Henry’s in the room with you. 👍🏽
Jamie Carragher@Carra23

No it’s not me, it’s partly because of your fan base online, something I didn’t mention in the piece! The column is actually quite positive about Arsenal/Arteta 🤷‍♂️😅 Sunday is the time to get the cameras out if you win, not after a PL win in January 🙃😂

@TBuckleigh69952 @PureGoonerCOYG @Carra23 Yeah we'd had a problem with fans leaving early, which Klopp wasn't happy about, and so it was partly in recognition of that. But also it was about forging a better relationship between the team and the fans. It certainly wasn't celebrating a draw though. 😂

The gaslighting is beyond incredible…..it’s never been “anyone but City”……… Plus part of the reason Arsenal get so much stick is because people like you Carragher have overly attacked their manager, celebrations, style, and football while consistently writing them off over the past 4 season……😂

@amscanlon @Madz_Grant Ooh this is gripping... So presumably only one of the women will actually get the kids to clear up and the other won't stick to the deal. But how will she respond to this betrayal? How far will she go for revenge? Can't wait to read it...

I’m going for an updated version where 2 middle aged women agree to swap guilt tripping their teenage children into tidying up behind them & putting dirty clothes in the laundry basket. When the kids think they’re alone a woman they’ve never met will quietly let herself into the home….

I’m well aware a lot of people don’t like to see Liverpool win, but most of them admired the football they played which is completely different to how they feel about Arsenal. I’m also very much in touch with how fans think, I’m one of the few pundits still on X!
Dan Critchlow@afcDW

The hilarious implication here is that Carragher thinks the neutrals have been rooting for Liverpool for much of the last decade. He’s so out of touch.

@amscanlon @Madz_Grant What does 'swap murders' even mean? They were both going to kill someone but then decided to swap their targets? Or they'd both already killed someone but swapped the evidence? These are the details you'll need to flesh out when you write it.

@Madz_Grant True story. I overheard 2 women on a train discussing a film where 2 strangers on a train swap murders. They could not remember the name. No sarcasm, no humour, genuinely saying “WHAT was it called again?” I was looking for hidden cameras

@Carra23 “but most of them admired the football they played” When was Liverpool ever known for playing good football? You & many other pundits out of hatred created this narrative that this Arsenal don’t play beautiful football to downplay & diminish what they have done so far.

@BruceHBond @RedDevilStudioX @DaleJohnsonBBC Nope, you're wrong yet again. Villa could finish 5th. Liverpool could finish 6th. And both would join the top 4 in the Champions League, if they won their European trophy. And 7th would then qualify too, via the EPS. Try researching it, rather than embarrassing yourself.

@SpaceToffee @RedDevilStudioX @DaleJohnsonBBC You’d need Villa to finish outside the top 5 and win the EL, if they finish in the top 5 and win the Europa league and Liverpool win the CL and finish top then those CL spots don’t drop to 6th & 7th

@BruceHBond @RedDevilStudioX @DaleJohnsonBBC If you mean it won't actually happen, because Liverpool won't win the Champions League etc, then yeah I agree it's very unlikely. But if that scenario did happen - Liverpool and Villa winning the trophies and coming 5th and 6th - then yes, the EPS would 100% go to 7th place.
