@TF_Moments His association with blue rat was telling. And him bitching about "blue haired feminists" and obviously associating and praising shadman are just awful. Totally poisoned toy discourse as well.

@AvuxTF Ngl, this is another figure that follows the awful "well everyone hates backpacks so let's put all of the altmode on his legs" He may look "cleaner" but he doesn't have ankles and the arms don't have any wrist articulation even when they don't do anything to transform...

in hand is definitely a lot kinder to this figure than those initial stock images (shocking, I know) but I do still think the thighs and arms being a barren wasteland of black plastic is really hirting this guy

The most frustrating part of being a figure collector in the US is accepting that Bandai Movie Monster Series (originally about $10 USD in the US and still around that price in Japan) sells for an average of $25, even online.

@MG_mad_as_hell Definitely get a version after frozen shin. They did a new tooling which overhauled the moulding and joints entirely

Today’s figure is the S.H.MonsterArts Godzilla 2016 Shin Godzilla! I can confidently say it’s one of the most popular SHMA releases of all time. The one I have here is the first edition. Look at the teeth it is amazing! A big benefit as a very first release 😎😎😎 Yes, it has been re-released countless times in various versions. I think most people would agree that this sculpt represents the absolute best ShinGoji action figure in existence. One funny fact is, it’s also one of the most articulated figures in the entire SHMA lineup—which is pretty ironic considering ShinGoji barely moves at all in the movie. The waist rotates and has an incredible range for crunching forward and arching back. The tail is easily one of the biggest points, and the mouth hinges open to a ridiculous, screen-accurate degree. While this first edition was painted way too red, the subsequent variants took a completely different approach. They used translucent materials, giving the figure more of an 'art toy' vibe. It feels like a modern, stylized reinterpretation of an art toy. We’ve seen this through the Night Combat, Awakening, and MGP versions. However, the flaws are still glaring. First, the mold maintenance has been terrible. The teeth, for instance, became progressively muddier with each reissue. By the time they rolled out the Ortho version, the teeth didn't even look like teeth anymore. They managed to recover the details with the MGP version, so you can just avoid buying the Ortho version and it will be fine. The proportions are also an issue—specifically, the neck is just too long. ShinGoji naturally has a long neck, so while making it slightly shorter might be forgivable, making it even longer is unacceptable. The head sculpt also has some issue, but I blame the joint engineering for the head more than the sculpt. Presumably to allow for that wide-open jaw gimmick, both the upper and lower jaws are connected directly to the neck instead of a proper head unit. There is no standalone head piece. Because of this, the further it looks up, the more the jaw recedes, and the further it looks down, the more it gets a severe underbite. It’s yet another classic case of 'joint design ruining the original sculpt,' a recurring theme I've brought up in my GMK and NECA 2016 reviews. While it’s not as catastrophic as the NECA 2016, it is far worse than the GMK. Also, while it's not a dealbreaker, that magnificent tail is just too heavy. It's not inherently a bad thing, but since SHMA joints are notoriously weak, it easily succumbs to loose-joint syndrome over time. Taking all variants into account, I do agree that this is the definitive ShinGoji action figure on the market, and it’s certainly a great piece. That said, it just barely misses the cut for a solid recommendation. Overall, I’d give it a C+. B- to be worth recommending. It’s still miles ahead of the D-tier NECA version—even though, personally, I have a softer spot for the NECA. It just looks hilariously goofy.

@TorchOfMetal @Spider_Criminal basically lethal collector posted a video with the new Revoltech symbiote spider-man and in the video he said "mess toys stop ripping off revoltech" and other figtokers were in the comments defending himwhich is hypocritical cuz those figtokers made videos with mess toys before

Today’s figure review is the NECA 2016 Shin Godzilla! In my previous Hiya Toys GMK review, I talked about why joint engineering is so crucial. Well, this figure is a example of doing it wrong. First, we have to acknowledge how bittersweet it is that NECA doesn't make Godzilla figures anymore. They really were one of the best. Their 1962 is still one of my favorite figures. It’s also incredibly sad that they lost market trust due to the overwhelming number of bootlegs out there. Nowadays, even if you spot one on the market, your first instinct is to doubt it and think, 'Is this a bootleg?' The texture, paint job, and proportions on this figure are all outstanding. Honestly, I think it actually beats SHMA in those aspects—though, obviously, NECA falls way behind when it comes to the overall sculpt. The SHMA version has a neck that's just too long and it's way too red. The face doesn't really look like the onscreen face, the snout is too long. However, since Shin Godzilla inherently has a bizarre look to begin with, it’s not a dealbreaker. The real disaster happens when you try to pose it. The issue isn't that the articulation is limited or that it doesn't move well. It's that when you raise its head, combined with that overly long snout, it transforms into a freaking moray eel! This happens because the neck joint is placed too forward. Opening the mouth makes it even more of a spectacle; the proportions instantly fall apart. My first exposure to the NECA 2016 was seeing it in these poorly posed photos, I used to think it was just an ugly, weird figure. But after buying it myself and working on the posing, I was shocked. The issue was with the joints, not the underlying sculpt itself. So when you pose it in a way that respects the original sculpt, the look improves drastically. I still remember the reaction when I first posted photos of my NECA 2016. Everyone was blown away by how good it looked. Among the comments, a Japanese user said, 'I always thought this figure looked ugly, but seeing it handled by a true Godzilla expert makes it look so cool.' That compliment genuinely made my day. I really like this figure. It’s a perfect case study of how joint design can impact a figure's final look. While it's objectively a much worse figure than the SHMA version, the proportions, texture, and paint job make it my personal favorite ShinGoji figure.
