NEW: New Jersey State Police detective fatally shoots fugitive Shawn Phillips after he pulls gun during attempted arrest On July 29, 2025, a New Jersey State Police detective assigned to a federal fugitive task force approached 37-year-old Shawn Phillips on the front steps of a home on Haddon Avenue. Bodycam footage released yesterday, shows the detective ordering Phillips not to move. Phillips is heard saying, “Back the f— up,” as he reaches into his right front pocket and pulls out a loaded revolver. The detective fired several shots, fatally wounding Phillips. A loaded revolver with five live rounds was recovered at the scene. Phillips was wanted on charges including attempted aggravated arson and possession of explosives from a June 2025 incident in Evesham Township. He also had a history of restraining order violations.
