A Nikke OST every day for a year, day 2. Frost Pillar (Scenario Version) This is one of the lesser-appreciated OSTs within Nikke, first appearing in, presumably, Chapter 5. Honestly, this song really encapsulates those really early days of Nikke, back when everything was so new! “Raptures? What are those? The Pilgrims? Snow White? Woah!” Better days, to be sure. Chapter 5, and Wonderland in general, is one of the best early-game chapters in Nikke: great story, great final boss (LAND EATER), and it leads straight into the PEAK that is Chapter 6. Marian/Snow White. Also, for those curious, the “Scenario Version” in the title normally means that the song was used as the map theme for said chapter, although this has been changed up occasionally. Nikke has a really interesting naming scheme for songs. Typically, the Scenario Version of a song is the first in a chapter’s album. So, for this example, let’s use the game’s first few songs: Distress. “Distress Scenario Version” is the map theme for Chapter 0. This is the blueprint for the other main songs of any said chapter. This is where the motif is formed. Whatever the Scenario Version sounds like, the other songs will also sound like. Next is “Distress.” The second song can basically be used anywhere, but is typically used for story moments, with characters talking and the such. After that is “Distress - Signal.” The third song in a chapter playlist will always be a ramped-up version of the first and second, and this, as well, is used in story moments. Worth noting that the third song will always have something random as the key name. For this, it’s “Signal”; for others, it can and has been “BREAKER” or “RE.” Probably just depends on whatever Cosmograph is feeling. After that is where the chapter’s fighting/combat music starts. It works in two parts. First is the base combat song. For Chapter 0, it was “Crumbling City,” Combat song two is always a ramped-up version of the first one, and it also has a similar naming scheme to the story songs’ third one. For example, for “Crumbling City,” it’s “Crumbling City - Another Side.” Both combat songs are almost always used in the fighting stages, but can rarely be used elsewhere in the chapter’s story. After that, anything goes. Normally, the “special songs” appear. For Chapter 0, this would be “Disaster.” There isn’t a rhyme or rhythm to what comes after the first block of songs. Lastly, this OST is actually not made by Cosmograph, or at least not entirely. This one is made by the incredibly talented Feryquitous. They are behind a majority of the scenario and story OSTs heard in Chapters 5/6, They have also worked on some of the Crystal Region OSTs, around Chapters 28–43ish. Feryquitous has a very specific type of style, which makes it very easy to pick them out among the other songs in Nikke. I specifically remember playing Chapter 28, hearing one of their songs, and instantly recognizing them!
