Meat is expensive in Japan, most stuff available is only thin cuts, and the majority of people here live in such tiny apartments that doing smoke-heavy cooking even on balconies isn’t allowed.
The factors just don’t line up for American BBQ to be much of a thing in Japan.

I'm curious how Japan is so fascinated with our BBQ culture. I get not being able to grill, but are baby back ribs hard to get there or something? Japanese bros seem to love pork, so it's not like they just throw that part of the pig out, right? Maybe this weekend I'll show Japaniki how to make baby back ribs in the oven, American style 😎

Very often, people who come to Japan will remark on how safe it seems. How people leave laptops open on café tables unattended without fear of theft. This is because, largely, Japan is a high-trust, high-compliance society, and that comes with rigid intolerance for misbehavior.

While the great JP-EN twitter exchange is a good thing, I think what will happen in the end is western aggressive fandom culture will result in Japanese just leaving twitter entirely, and stay in apps like LINE where western fans cannot interact with them.

This might surprise younger people but in the ‘90s most of us knew how to read & were culturally literate. You could mention King Arthur or Citizen Kane and everyone knew what you meant. We were capable of writing essays. We had educational TV. We have lost so much, so quickly.

Social media has basically normalized antisocial behavior, conspiratorial thinking, psychopathy, and impulsiveness that it's rapidly eroding the very fabric of society as well as democracy.
We wouldn't be in this mess if the algorithm didn't favor ragebaits and echo chambers.
