The SL comeback nobody is writing about 2022: ❌ GDP crashed -7.3% ❌ Inflation hit 69.8% ❌ Foreign reserves down to $500 million ❌ Sovereign debt default ❌ Fuel queues, medicine shortages ❌ President fled the country 2024-2025: ✅ GDP grew 5% in 2024, 5% again in 2025 ✅ Inflation went from 70% to negative ✅ Foreign reserves up from $500M to $7.3 billion ✅ Rupee gained 19.4% back against USD ✅ First primary surplus in over a decade ✅ Tourist arrivals hit all time record — 2.36 million, beating 2018 ✅ Tourism revenue hit $3.2 billion ✅ Debt restructuring 98% complete ✅ IMF passed 3 consecutive reviews The world reported our collapse on every front page. Nobody reported the comeback. Every international agency from the World Bank to the IMF to the ADB called it a "remarkable recovery." But ask any Sri Lankan and they'll say "nothing has changed" Because the recovery is real in the numbers but slow in the pockets. Poverty is still at 24.5%. Real wages are still below 2019 levels. Food prices doubled between 2021 and 2024. People are still struggling So yes the comeback is real. The numbers dont lie.
