Prayers up for the family and loved ones of James Van Der Beek who passed away at 48 after a battle with stage 3 colorectal cancer. He was more than Dawson’s Creek or Varsity Blues. He was a father to 6 kids, husband, son and Man of God. His message is worth 3 min of your time

In ruminating on today’s tragedy, I was thinking about ways to honor Greg Biffle’s legacy. It seems to me that an appropriate way to do so could be the establishment of a top-tier award for the Cup driver who best exemplifies Biffle’s humanitarian and charitable legacy. I think there might be some kind of sponsor-driven award now, but I’m talking about something on the level of MLB’s Roberto Clemente Award. It appears that Greg’s heroic actions during Hurricane Helene will make up just as big of a part of his legacy as his racing, so the establishment of the Greg Biffle Award would be a wonderful way to permanently honor him. #NASCAR

Greg Biffle was someone a lot of North Carolinians knew and respected, and today’s news is incredibly sad. Beyond his racing career, people saw who he was when it mattered, especially after Hurricane Helene, when he stepped in to help communities that were struggling. That’s what many in this state will remember. My thoughts are with his family and everyone grieving. It’s a sad day for our state.
