With the WNBA draft picks set, we are boldly predicting that Flau’jae Johnson will be named the 2026 Rookie of the Year. With no logjam at the two spot in Seattle and the team entering a rebuilding phase, the No. 8 pick could very well find herself as a Day 1 starter and become a major contributor for a roster that has lost a significant amount of production. Her production dipped during her senior season at LSU, but as we pointed out before, her tournament runs show the level of player she can be when the stage is biggest. Ultimately, it will come down to whether Johnson can maintain that level of consistency at the next level. The three-point shot is there, the ability to create her own looks is there, the defense is there, and the drive to keep improving is clear. If that consistency—and the type of production she showed in the postseason—translates immediately to the WNBA, Johnson could quickly become one of the most fascinating rookies to watch this season. 🪄
