The Distinguished Springfield Professors of Humanics recently helped kick off the "Miles for Wall, Futures for All" fundraiser with a celebratory dinner with President Mary-Beth and Dave Cooper at the President's Residence. Springfield College students in the African Dance Technique & Theory course recently presented their 2026 midterm performance in the Fuller Arts Auditorium, showcasing foundational movement, rhythm, and song rooted in African and African Diaspora traditions. Through dance, drumming, and call-and-response, the performance highlighted both their technical growth and a deeper connection to cultural history, community, and lineage. Happy Pi Day! 🥧 The Springfield College Department of Math, Physics, and Computer Science recently celebrated Pi Day on campus. Pi Day is an annual celebration of the mathematical constant π. Pi Day is observed on March 14 since 3, 1, and 4 are the first three significant figures of π. As part of the celebration, the student who recited the most digits of Pi won a special prize. Springfield College Director of Dance Sarah Zehnder, right, and her professional company Zehnder Dance were recently selected to participate in the "Creative Sector Day" at the State House in Boston. This free event brings together the creative community to celebrate Massachusetts' thriving creative sector and advocate for the funding and resources needed to better support artists statewide. Zehnder was one of only 21 artists selected to participate. Hundreds of applications from across the state of Massachusetts were submitted to take part in the day. Zehnder invited Springfield College dance major Octavia Courcy, left, to perform with her at the event. Congratulations to Zehnder and Courcy for representing Springfied College and the Visual and Performing Arts Department proudly at the State House.

The Springfield College Board of Trustees voted unanimously to extend the contract of President Mary-Beth Cooper beyond its original end date of June 2027. "Serving as President of Springfield College has been one of the greatest honors of my professional life. Join us for a screening of Americanish followed by a Q&A with Aizzah Fatima. Welcome to America: Where dreams come true...ish. A break from the traditional romantic comedy, Americanish highlights different layers of womanhood as they intersect with cultural and societal expectations. Americanish invites viewers into the home and lives of three marriage-aged women as they navigate the often-turbulent waters of romance, culture, career, and family. We follow the joys and tribulations of career-driven sisters Maryam and Sam Khan, and their fish-out-of-water cousin Ameera. Set in Jackson Heights, Queens, New York, the film follows a relatable and endearing storyline, offering a fresh perspective on classic rom-com tropes. Americanish delves into the complexity of trying to both honor and break from cultural traditions while balancing personal values and career goals in a society that does not always accommodate both. Join us for a Reading by Author Jennifer Bannan on Tuesday, March 24, 7:00 pm at the Cleveland E. and Phyllis B. Dodge Room (B), Flynn Campus Union. Fiction writer Jennifer Bannan will read from her new story collection, Tamiami Trail: Miami Stories (Carnegie Mellon University Press, 2025), named for the road that connects Tampa to Miami. The Tamiami Trail cuts through the contradictions of Miami: a city shaped by swamps and skyscrapers, violence and desire. In her stories, Bannan brings us vivid portraits of women navigating this teeming, volatile landscape. Elaine Chiew of Foreward Reviews writes, “Clinging to their tangential morality by way of a mystical sense of place, the characters in Tamiami Trail are flawed and full of want. Their grasping opportunism contrasts with the ineffable honoring of place and myth, thus revealing their naked humanity.” Tamiami Trail: Miami Stories was included in the Best of October 2025 by the Southern Review of Books and was named a finalist in the Eyelands International Awards. A Q&A and book signing will follow the reading. This event is free and open to the Springfield College community and the public.
