@zanky0reference @SatanicBananas So from my understanding of what I've been reading, correct me if I'm wrong but the BDS movement is towards institutionalisation not individualism. Having an Israeli character is not grounds for boycotting it depends on the context of the character's portrayal.

People need to stop treating reading as fandom. If you like a book, take note so you can pick up the author’s next book if it appeals. But you need to stop getting ATTACHED to authors. This parasocial style of media interaction is crippling your ability to engage with fiction.

honestly i'm this close to quitting reading for good. every single author i actually love turns out to be problematic or worse. i'm so tired of finding out after i already got attached. feels like i can't enjoy anything anymore without a background check first

@Spiceboymoptop @EmmyLouReview I'm sorry, but thats irrelevant. The personal morality of people living within Israel doesn't make it not settler colonialist state and adding a character from there DOES add to the normalization of Israel.

@zanky0reference @EmmyLouReview I get that but do we know the implications of the character itself? I'm just curious because I personally don't believe every single person there is evil and I think it's wrong to condemn the author without having all the information. But hey it's the internet 🤷

@Spiceboymoptop @EmmyLouReview From what I could gather the character is Israeli but it's still strange af for an author who pledged to follow BDS guidelines to normalize the occupation by having a character thats from there.

@Spiceboymoptop I don’t know anything about this particular situation. They’re not an author I know or have read. I was just commenting on people’s reactions to it—i.e. wanting to quit reading over feeling betrayed by an author.

Sure, but also note there’s two sides to this. Fair is fair.
Don’t deliberately choose to play a game that its devs intended to be a challenging experience and is marketed as such…
Then get upset that the game is “too hard” and pressure or demand the devs to make it easier for you.
You can choose your games that have an Easy mode, but let devs make their hard games without having to consider difficulty if they don’t want to.
Long story short - play what you want, lets other play what they want, and let devs make what they want.

They absolutely should be disregarding consumer ideas because for the most part the consumer doesn't actually know what they want. They just think they do and they don't consider what these ideas are like to implement with their artistic vision

If that's your point then you're obscuring it with cheap quips. "You don't like it" yeah and? If devs want to make money then you can't competely disregard consumer desires
