@snek3d I'm going to be honest I don't know how I feel about this...

Suffers from some shrinkwrap jitter but this is just an initial test. Duplicated the model with all modifiers. Simplified to just an outer shell, added the outside shrinkwrap and then setup as a surface deform on the main model.
