@Twotones5 I did the research, she's still a ways away cracking the girls Top 20. I can only count her GSL 4A/3A games her Junior-Senior years & her GSL 2A games her Frosh-Soph years for the GSL Record Book. With 4 games to go, I'll continue to monitor. Great career nonetheless.

This Week In GSL History 2015 4A State Championship Gonzaga Prep’s season-long mission ended exactly as planned, with a trophy raised high inside the Tacoma Dome. The Bullpups capped an undefeated 14-0 campaign by overpowering Skyline 34-16 in the title game. 6-foot-4 sophomore wideout Devin Culp delivered a breakout performance, scoring on two reverse runs of 16 and 59 yards and adding a key 43-yard sideline reception from Liam Bell. Prep’s ground game was just as dominant as ever. Evan Weaver bulldozed his way to 135 yards and 2-TDs, while Bell added 115 rushing yards of his own. Behind those three, the Bullpups piled up 564 yards of total offense, a new state title record, along with three other championship game records: rushing yards (521), rushing attempts (83), and first downs (29).

This Week In GSL History 1985 40 Years Ago AAA State Championship Juanita looked every bit like a defending state champion coming out of the locker room, and Gonzaga Prep never found its footing in a 28–13 King Bowl IX defeat at the Kingdome. The Rebels set the tone early, forcing a quick Bullpup punt and returning it to the 4-yard line to set up their opening score. Their defense continued to dictate the game, creating short fields that led to two more touchdowns and a 21–0 cushion midway through the second quarter. G-Prep spent most of the afternoon out of rhythm. Although the Rebels held only a slight edge in total yards, 249–245, the Pups lost the turnover battle 3–0 and those giveaways directly fueled Juanita’s scoring opportunities. Quarterback #10 Ron Hawkins accounted for both Pup touchdowns, punching them in on QB keepers.

This Week In GSL History 1915 110 Years Ago Thanksgiving Day Frank Skadan, North Central’s captain, was the first to charge onto the rain-and-snow-soaked field at Natatorium Park, a fitting preview of the gritty afternoon ahead in the annual Thanksgiving Day showdown with Lewis & Clark. In NC’s 20–0 victory, the tough fullback Skadan proved to be the unquestioned difference-maker. He punched in 2 of the Indians’ 3 third-quarter touchdowns and was outstanding on defense, anchoring the linebacking corps. Despite North Central controlling the clock in the first half, the Tigers managed a late field-goal attempt, only for Skadan to burst through and block it, keeping the score locked at 0–0 at the break. Footing became an issue after half as the baseball infield surface was reported to be 3-4 inches of mud. In the 4th Qtr, as LC began airing it out, Skadan struck again with 2 interceptions, including one inside the red zone. QB James McIsaacs led NC in total yardage with more than 100, while Clyde Harris added the other TD & contributed a series of strong runs. 11:08 AM

This Week In GSL History 2015 10 Years Ago 4A State Semifinals In a game defined by momentum swings, Gonzaga Prep made the final surge, knocking off Richland 31–17 at Edgar Brown Stadium in Pasco. The Bullpups raced out to a 9–0 lead before the Bombers clawed back to tie the game midway through the 2nd quarter. But with 1:18 left in the half, Prep reclaimed control when Liam Bell found Ryan Gross for a diving touchdown grab. Richland’s defense tightened after the break, allowing the Bombers to take a brief lead as the Pups’ offense stalled. But Gonzaga Prep had the last run, scoring on its final two drives to put the game away. Evan Weaver powered the late push, punching in 2 short-yardage touchdowns and finishing with 95 yards on 17 hard-earned carries.

This Week In GSL History 1985 40 Years Ago AAA State Semifinal In their biggest game of the season, what does a respected wishbone triple-option offense like Gonzaga Prep do in the snow? Turn to the air, of course. The Bullpups did exactly that in a 28–21 victory over South Kitsap at Joe Albi Stadium. The Wolves from Port Orchard, led by Spokane native and Shadle Park alum Ed Fisher, took a 21–14 lead into halftime after their defensive front & linebackers came out firing, slowing down the G-Prep rushing attack. But sparked by 4 forced fumbles, the Bullpup defense shutout South Kitsap in the 2nd half and leaned on their passing game to score the final 21 points to complete the comeback.   #81 Jason Pulliam hauled in 2 of those 3 touchdown passes, including the leaping game-winner with 2:41 remaining in the 4th. Pulliam finished with 4 catches for 105 yards, making several difficult grabs in the snow, but none bigger than his athletic 33-yard leap, spin, and score on a halfback pass from Tom Corbett. In the game, Prep’s offensive breakdown was: 150 yards passing and 146 rushing as they outgained the Wolves 296 to 285.   On a slick astroturf surface like Albi, where footing was uncertain, kicker Thayne Doyle calmly converted all 4 extra-point attempts.

This Week In GSL History 1935 90 Years Ago The Spokane City Champion Rogers Pirates traveled by Great Northern train, bound for Portland and a Thanksgiving Day showdown with Rose City champion Washington High before a crowd of 6,183 at Multnomah Stadium. Though small in stature, the Pirates were mighty in spirit, facing a Colonial squad that, according to news reports, outweighed them by nearly 20 pounds per man, Rogers defeated Washington 6-0. The game’s turning point came early in the 1st Qtr. Pirate D-ends stormed in on a Washington punt, with Reg McDavis getting the block and Don Bach the deflection & racing it back to the 2-yard line. One play later, bruising fullback Ralph Brown punched in the short TD. From there, Pirate superstar quarterback Abe Poffenroth took command. Using both his arm and legs, he managed the clock as the Hillyard boys controlled time of possession throughout the afternoon. Poffenroth also starred on defense, collecting 2 of the Pirates’ 3 interceptions. Sam Tortorelli grabbed the other, and both he and Brown delivered key contributions on both sides of the ball as Rogers powered to a memorable Turkey Day victory.

This Week In GSL History 1925 100 Years Ago Thanksgiving Day The annual rivalry game between Lewis & Clark and North Central was held at the Fairgrounds, where 7,000 fans watched a defensive, 10 turnover-filled battle. In the end, LC sealed a 9–0 victory by blocking back-to-back punts in the 4th quarter. Early in the 4th, LC blocked an NC punt that pinned the Indians deep, and after a turnover on downs by NC at the two-yard line, the Tiger defense stood tall. LC lineman Robert Davis then broke through to block a punt in the end zone, resulting in a two-point safety. On the following drive, LC marched down the field behind the power running of Kenneth “Mac” McCluskey and Earnest Hunter. Hunter ultimately delivered the dagger, punching in a short touchdown run to secure the Tigers’ win.
