we have normalised overconsumption. listening to a podcast while we walk, scrolling reels in the toilet, listening to music while we cook, watching a show on Netflix while we eat. it’s as if there is NO breathing space for your mind. you’re constantly trying to fill the void, the stillness and yet here you’re complaining about feeling groggy and demotivated.

In a world that worships productivity, choosing rest is rebellion. Accommodating yourself is resistance. Honoring your limits is power. It’s Disability Pride Month, and I’m proud as fuck of you for taking care of yourself even when the world tells you not to.

It will always baffle me how easily people will believe that the poor, the sick, the marginalized, and the immigrant are the cause for all their problems, rather than the people in the most powerful positions in their country who refuse to fix problems and exploit them instead.

Independence Day is a reminder that America is not the project of any one person. The single most powerful word in our democracy is the word ‘We.’ ‘We The People.’ ‘We Shall Overcome.’ ‘Yes We Can.’ America is owned by no one. It belongs to all citizens. And at this moment in history—when core democratic principles seem to be continuously under attack, when too many people around the world have become cynical and disengaged—now is precisely the time to ask ourselves tough questions about how we can build our democracies and make them work in meaningful and practical ways for ordinary people.

What a whirlwind. Denver for vacay, then Cleveland Clinic for an EGD followed by mild rhabdo that delayed return to KC. Then this morning I had a panic attack & nearly missed my flight. Made it to layover omw to my 4th CSTE conference in Michigan! Cheers to powering through.

When you have a serious systemic disease causing organ/neuro damage that tends to be psychologized and dismissed by clinicians as “just dryness”, despair is a natural response. Extreme diagnostic delays and inadequate care are the norm.
