Virus Alert on Cruise Ship The cruise liner MV Hondius has been placed under quarantine off the coast of Cape Verde due to a suspected outbreak. Around 150 people on board are unable to disembark. Authorities believe the outbreak may be linked to hantavirus, a rare but dangerous infection. At least three people have died so far, and several cases are reported to be severe. The first fatality was a 70-year-old passenger, followed shortly by his wife. Another person has also died, though their identity has not yet been confirmed. A British passenger remains in critical condition, while two crew members urgently require medical attention. Officials warn that additional infections cannot be ruled out. The ship has requested assistance, but passengers are not being allowed ashore. Local authorities and the World Health Organization are working to determine how to evacuate those who are ill. Hantavirus is typically transmitted through rodents and can cause serious illness, particularly affecting the respiratory system.
