It’s funny, “It Was Written” was how I got introduced to Nas. MTV was always on, and seeing “If I Ruled the World” video blew me away

It Was Written has an interesting legacy because it was an extremely polarizing album in 1996 that became closer to universally revered over time. Some folks saw it as Nas “selling out” but for lotsa folks, it was their intro to him.

I spoke at a high school last month. Students said they want 90 second to 2 minute songs. 1 chorus, 1 verse, 1 chorus.
