Springhead School

OFSTED will be inspecting Springhead School on 21st June 2023. The Lead Inspector will be Christine Durrand. A letter for families with information regarding the inspection, as well as information abouting completing ‘Parent view will be coming home with students tonight

In RSE Doves and Kites have been sharing the book ‘Pants’ by Nick Sherratt, and watching the NSPCC video and song ‘Pantosaurus’. We have enjoyed matching games, pegging pants on a line and have learnt how to say ‘NO!’

This term Swallows have been exploring all things Beetles. Our music focus has been the Ugly Bug Ball. We have had fun exploring instruments & listening to different tones & pitches to create the sounds of bugs. We have been creative & made instruments using recycled materials.

As part of World Book Day, Swifts and Swallows enjoyed listening to the story, 'The Farmyard Jamboree'. They used a variety of instruments to play along to the song and in the afternoon danced along to a live band that came to perform for the school.

Students in the Eagles Class celebrated their love of books by taking time to choose a variety of books to read from home, the classroom and the library. Students selected their favourite books and characters were brought to life with great imagination and creative costumes.

Robins class loved World Book Day. We enjoyed dressing up and listening to the story Stan and Mabel , we played and made instruments linked to the musical theme and even listened to live music in the hall.

Herons had a fantastic morning when they had a visit from a tennis coach. They worked together as teams and demonstrated some real skill with their aims and passing techniques. We can’t wait to see how they progress as they obviously impressed him as he’s coming back!

Puffin's have been using their senses to explore different textures and smells during the story of 'The Gingerbread Man'. They have been observing what happens when mixing substances together and have been on adventures into the new kitchen to make salt dough

Owls have been exploring musical instruments and listening to the sounds that they make, using different instruments like guitars and drums. They found objects around the classroom that they could use too! They especially enjoyed listening to the soft noise from the Ocean Drum.

Hawks class remembered the fallen ahead of Remembrance Day. They worked hard to create poppies to make a display in school and then made wreaths to remember not only the soldiers but the animals in the war that died. They then went up to the war memorial to lay the wreaths.

Remember, remember the fifth of November! Last week the pupils in Swifts painted firework pictures to celebrate Bonfire Night. They have also explored different colours, materials and textures

Earlier this month, we had Polish Day in school. In Swallows, they dressed in red and white to represent Poland. They created flowers in red and white during an Art session using a range of tools to represent family and being together.

Hawks have been making their very own chocolate apples. They melted the chocolate and chose which sprinkles they wanted. They even waited patiently to see how they tasted!

Before half term, Robins took part in MATP challenge week. We worked on our striking, kicking & dexterity. We enjoyed working on our physical skills & happily rose to the challenge

1/2 Eagles Class are planning a fundraising event for Children in Need. They researched that the theme for this is "Together we can change young lives". Market research was done and students decided to plan and host an “Ice cream float and bun” morning on Wednesday 16th November

2/2 Posters have been designed and made to advertise the event to Sixth Form Students and staff. A photograph frame and props are being made for a photo booth to create wonderful memories. Everyone has worked as a team to attempt to raise money for Children in Need

Sixth Form enjoyed a visit from Scarborough Fire Station today - and after a talk about fire safety and what to do if you find a fire, got to explore the fire engine and all of the equipment. Thank you to Blue Watch for taking the time to come and visit us! @ScarboroughFir2

Puffins have been out on some sensory walks collecting leaves and sticks to then explore in class and do some Autumn crafts. We have loved feeling the different natural resources, listening to the leaves rustle and crinkle and the sound of a Conker hitting the tray

Swan class joined a tennis event at Raincliffe Sports Hall with a team of 6 pupils. They took part in activities that taught control, balance, coordination & safety. Pupils paired up to use a racket to hit the ball across the net - and finished off with a fun game of dodgeball.

Hawks have been inspired by the colours of Autumn to create their artwork; they have created pumpkins using leaves they have found on their walk and they have also used a marbling technique to create leaves.
