VFL: with the Seven Network broadcasting no AFL on Saturdays, Jason Bennett will call the Saturday night VFL games on 7mate in Victoria (and 7plus Sport nationally). And he'll have Nigel Carmody next to him, working their 10th season together. Great result.

A lot of people in local sport will tell you that common sense isn’t all that common among councils. But it has finally prevailed at the City of Greater Dandenong, with Springvale Districts FNC given access to the main social club at Newcomen Rd. Well done to Districts.

He's finished second to Kyle Martin a few times. But a first and deserved Noble Park FC best and fairest tonight for Jackson Sketcher, to go with his Eastern league medal.

Congratulations to Ty Vickery on taking out the David Hall medal at last nights vote count. Ty was a narrow winner from John Walker and Skipper Mason Russell. Congratulations also to Matt Thompson and Sean Francis on becoming Life Members number 50 & 51.

@PaulAmy375 It was fantastic to have two if his kids, Josh and Teaghan on hand to accept it. Also, an emotional speech from young Brenny Maxwell in honour of his late father.

Springvale Districts FNC last night celebrated 60 years of football and in doing so named a 30-year team. Happy to see Andy McQueen named as No 1 ruckman. We miss the big fella.

Breaking and sad news: Fred Cook, the full forward who kicked goals galore for Port Melbourne in the old VFA and played league football for Footscray, has died peacefully at the age of 74. He was only a legend.

There's another Toner coming through in football in the south-east. Speedy Mitch Toner (son of Narre Warren premiership coach Chris and the brother of Williamstown defender Jack) captained the South East Juniors U13 team and finished second in the league b&f. File the name away.

Another honour for premiership Pie Shane Morwood. He's been added to the Southern league hall of fame in recognition of his dazzling coaching record at Dingley. Guided it to four Division 1 flags in five years before stepping aside at the end of 2019.
