In case you wonder what we — and President Trump — are up against. 100% NEGATIVE coverage from so-call “mainstream” press in the first 100 days. PERFECT SCORE. (Come on @RobertKennedyJr & @elonmusk , you guys can do better!)

PCSK9 inhibitors are one of the greatest success stories in human genetics. Their discovery was enabled by sequencing the genomes of African Americans in Texas.

Excited to share my PhD student Jordan Reed’s final paper on how the the genetic background of mice impact the metabolic response to Western, Mediterranean, Vegetarian, and Vegan diets. tldr: genetic background is more important than diet composition. cell.com/iscience/fullt…

@lastpositivist Obv the humanities are not the only academic fields, and there probably *is* some self-sorting going on, but I think that general disregard for academia had some kind of effect on who decided to pursue higher ed

@lastpositivist For most of my life the prevailing attitude of adults - especially conservative ones - was "why would you study the Humanities? That's a useless degree." So it's surprising when they're all of a sudden mad that young adults took their advice and pursued other careers!

Why few conservative profs? Well per this: for some issues conservative politics corresponds with anti-intellectual positions, and also there's a general tendency for educated conservative people to pick better remunerated careers and academia ain't that crookedtimber.org/2024/08/08/the…

whether deliberate or unintentional, the people who want you to treat AI systems as fully autonomous agents are simply laundering responsibility and accountability for the failures/harm from AI into glorified copy-paste machines that can’t know responsibility or accountability

I've had bad dreams every night this week and this morning it occurred to me to take a COVID test because one of the symptoms I consistently have with the vaccines is AWFUL nightmares (very unusual for me). Test was (-) but wondering if anyone else experienced this w/ COVID vax?

make no mistake. the primary objective of these AI companies is not to benefit society, advance science or human flourishing (as they keep telling us) but to consolidate power where it already is concentrated and control, monitor and surveil each and every move we make

I don’t even know what this means, just that before 2020 this headline belonged to a Neal Stephenson novel. theverge.com/2024/6/13/2417…
