Aave service providers and ecosystem partners have established a recovery fund that factors in pending DAO votes, including the Arbitrum governance vote, indicative agreements, and successful execution to restore rsETH’s full backing. We are DeFi United, and resolving this for affected users and the broader DeFi ecosystem is our top priority. We have aligned with @KelpDAO and @LayerZero_Core on the technical steps required to execute our plan. That work is now moving forward. Thank you to everyone who contributed to DeFi United and to the thousands of community members who stood with us throughout. Watching the DeFi community come together has been genuinely inspiring. The final recovery plan, steps for users, and further updates will follow shortly.

Update on rsETH incident: rsETH reserves have been paused across Ethereum Core, Arbitrum, Base, Mantle, and Linea. This was done with the objective of recovering additional funds as the recovery plans progress. We will keep the community updated on the next steps as the efforts continue.

Update on rsETH incident: WETH reserves on the Ethereum Core V3 market have been unfrozen and users can supply WETH to Ethereum Core V3 again. WETH LTV remains at 0. WETH reserves on Ethereum Prime, Arbitrum, Base, Mantle, and Linea remain frozen. Aave service providers will continue to work on next steps and provide updates accordingly.

⚠️ALERT: $AAVE is now down -19% today after a $292M Kelp DAO rsETH exploit triggered a full-blown liquidity crisis. Aave's ETH pool just hit 100% utilization. That means one thing: there's almost no ETH left to withdraw. Here's what happened: Attacker drained 116,500 rsETH ($292M) from Kelp DAO's LayerZero bridge He then deposited the stolen rsETH as collateral on Aave V3 to borrow ~$236M in WETH. Because the rsETH is now unbacked, those positions are unliquidatable. Aave is now stuck with ~$280M in bad debt it cannot recover. Panic withdrawals have followed: $5.4 BILLION in $ETH outflows, with Justin Sun pulling 65,584 ETH ($154M) alone. ETH utilization has maxed out at 100%, which means there's almost no ETH left to withdraw. This is the FIRST real-world test of Aave's Umbrella safety module & the BIGGEST DeFi exploit of 2026. This is a developing story.

The rsETH markets on Aave V3 and Aave V4 have been frozen. Aave's contracts have not been exploited and this is an exploit related to rsETH. The freeze follows an exploit of the Kelp DAO rsETH bridge. Freezing the rsETH markets prevents new deposits and borrowing against rsETH collateral while the situation is assessed. We are reviewing information about rsETH borrows on Aave that occurred after the exploit and will share more details as soon as possible. If the protocol accumulates bad debt from this incident, we'll explore paths to offset the deficit.
