@videogameshay I once paid about $500 for an incredibly detailed piece the artist finished in less than a day. The speed and quality was worth every penny. Artists deserve adequate pay, and if I can't afford what they charge, then I can't afford it. Doesn't mean I'm being overcharged.

Hi full time artist here who is going to break down comm prices. We charge based on what we think is an appropriate hourly wage for us. A skilled artist not only works on your piece, but there is communication, follow up, planning, reference finding, revisions and post production. This is all added to the actual time it takes to draw. What you don’t see in the price? The countless hours of studying and personal art I do to improve my craft. The money I spend on lessons. The money I spend on software. The money I spend on hardware. The time away from my kids to work. The unpaid time off. The unpaid vacation. The unpaid sick time. I make anywhere from $15-30 per hour for my work factoring all this in. I can sometimes get as high as $50 but this is for very complicated commission work that requires A LOT of communication and planning. Artists deserve to put food on their table and a roof over their head. If you can’t afford that - you can find an artist in your budget or draw the art yourself!
