Ich habe mir heute mal genauer angeschaut, wer Brad Garlinghouse eigentlich wirklich ist. Und ganz ehrlich… die meisten unterschätzen komplett, welche Rolle dieser Mann im Hintergrund spielt. Viele sehen nur: → CEO von Ripple → Interviews → öffentliche Auftritte Und denken, das war’s. Aber wenn man sich seine Vergangenheit anschaut, merkt man ziemlich schnell: Der Typ kommt nicht aus Krypto. Er kommt aus der Zeit, in der das Internet selbst gerade erst entstanden ist. Er war bei Yahoo. Zu einer Phase, in der entschieden wurde, wie das Internet überhaupt funktioniert, wie Plattformen wachsen und wie globale Netzwerke aufgebaut werden. Und genau dort hat er nicht einfach nur mitgearbeitet. Er war in einer Position, in der er Dinge gesehen hat, die viele andere nicht sehen konnten. Besonders spannend wird es bei einem Moment, der bis heute in der Tech-Welt zitiert wird: Das sogenannte „Peanut Butter Memo“. 2006 hat Garlinghouse intern ein Dokument geschrieben, in dem er Yahoo extrem scharf kritisiert hat. Er beschreibt darin, dass das Unternehmen sich „wie Erdnussbutter“ über zu viele Projekte verteilt hat – also überall ein bisschen, aber nirgends wirklich stark ist. Seine Kernaussage war im Grunde: Yahoo hat keinen klaren Fokus mehr, verzettelt sich komplett und verliert dadurch seine eigentliche Stärke. Dieses Memo war eigentlich nur intern gedacht. Wurde aber geleakt !!! Und plötzlich konnte die ganze Öffentlichkeit sehen, wie ein Top-Manager seine eigene Firma auseinander nimmt. Das ist kein normaler Move. Das macht man nicht, wenn man einfach nur Karriere spielen will. Das macht man, wenn man überzeugt ist, dass ein System gerade falsch läuft. Und genau dieser Charakterzug zieht sich durch seine gesamte Laufbahn. Aber lasst uns zurück zu Ripple kommen ... Als Garlinghouse 2015 dazukommt, ist die Situation alles andere als einfach: Krypto ist ein Randthema, Banken sind extrem skeptisch und Regulierung ist praktisch nicht existent. Viele hätten in so einer Phase Abstand gehalten. Er geht genau rein. Und hier wird der Unterschied zu vielen anderen Projekten sichtbar: Während ein großer Teil der Krypto-Szene versucht, das bestehende System zu ersetzen, verfolgt Ripple einen komplett anderen Ansatz. Sie versuchen nicht, das System zu zerstören. Sie versuchen, sich in das System zu integrieren. Und genau dafür brauchst du keinen reinen Entwickler. Du brauchst jemanden, der versteht, wie große Strukturen funktionieren. Garlinghouse ist kein klassischer Tech-Founder, der im Code lebt. Seine Stärke liegt in Strategie, Kommunikation und Zugang zu den richtigen Leuten. Er bewegt sich in Gesprächen mit Banken, Regulierungsbehörden und Institutionen, die darüber entscheiden, ob eine Technologie akzeptiert wird oder nicht. Der größte Härtetest kam dann mit der SEC-Klage. Das war kein kleiner Rückschlag, sondern ein massiver Angriff auf das gesamte Geschäftsmodell. Viele Projekte wären daran zerbrochen oder hätten sich zurückgezogen. Er hat sich entschieden, genau das Gegenteil zu tun. Er ist offensiv damit umgegangen, hat öffentlich Stellung bezogen und sich bewusst in die erste Reihe gestellt. Sogar eine Tattoo des Tages der Urteilsverkündung schmückt seinen Körper seither. Und genau in diesem Moment wurde klar: Das hier ist kein reines Tech-Projekt. Das ist ein Spiel auf einer ganz anderen Ebene. Technologie allein reicht nicht aus, um ein globales System zu verändern. Du brauchst Vertrauen! Du brauchst Beziehungen! Und du brauchst jemanden, der beide Welten versteht! Das alte Finanzsystem. Und die neue Blockchain-Welt. Und genau zwischen diesen beiden Welten bewegt sich Garlinghouse seit Jahren. Jetzt verstehen einige sicherlich besser, warum er sogar ins Weisse Haus geladen wurde. Wenn man sich das Ganze nüchtern anschaut, wird eine Sache deutlich: Falls XRP wirklich eine größere Rolle im globalen Finanzsystem spielen sollte, dann wird das nicht durch Hype entschieden. Sondern durch Gespräche, Entscheidungen und Strukturen, die im Hintergrund aufgebaut werden. Und genau dort sitzt jemand wie Brad Garlinghouse. Nicht im Code. Sondern am Tisch, an dem entschieden wird, wie das System der Zukunft aussieht. Und genau deshalb unterschätzen ihn so viele. Ripple has 14 months remaining to secure its FULL Banking Charter operations with the OCC 🏛 As of April 3rd for the OCC final rule, Ripple will still operate on a "CONDITIONAL APPROVAL" basis. Ripple needs to meet further capital, risk management, KYC/AML, and compliance conditions before obtaining final, fully operational charter status. What is the "Final Rule?": The OCC's April "Final Rule" does not expand OCC chartering authority or create new powers. It simply eliminates potential ambiguity created by a 2003 amendment to the SAME REGULATION. The rule itself, however, is a bullish stepping stone for Ripple's ongoing charter application, especially in regards to custody solutions. The 60 banking charters under the OCC can now operate BOTH fiduciary and non-fiduciary activities, such as custody solutions which Ripple provide (Ripple custody). Overall, the final rule provides an explicit, "formal regulatory confirmation" that national trust banks can perform non-fiduciary activities as part of "operations of a trust company and activities related thereto."
