@kalyanasc @arnav_d The climax setting reminded me of lot of “18th Parallel” by Ashokamitran. The jarring realization of the betrayal amidst the frenzy mob mentality. I had that Gandhian element factored out in Deepa Mehta’s trilogy with that realization of Ashoksmithran (in an article a decade ago)

For me, 1947: Earth has Aamir Khan’s greatest performance. Revisited the novel it’s based on, Bapsi Sidhwa's The Ice-Candy-Man, a postcolonial masterpiece in its own right. But what the film does, largely through Aamir, is something else. That slow, terrifying shift, from a tender lover to a fanatic. Every time I watch it, it’s the various masks he cycles through that stay with me. Haunting, really.
