@PremiershipYrs Was chosen to play to prove that he was worthy of a World Cup spot. Scored a brilliant hattrick, also hit the post twice, captained the team and still left out. Travesty that @mattletiss7 was overlooked so often, because of his loyalty and not playing for one of the ‘big’ clubs!

In April 1998, Matt Le Tissier scored this terrific hat-trick for the England B team against their Russian counterparts, live on Sky Sports. He also ended the game as captain and looked set for the 1998 World Cup squad 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 Ultimately, he was left out.

How it felt getting to leave double maths early to go play in the school football team…

@mattletiss7 Carragher should be nowhere near it, there’s 60 better players in the league now! And Giggs should never be as high as 4, so overrated… 24 seasons in the top flight, for the best attacking team of all time, and only managed 10+ goals twice! Giggs averaged 4.7 goals a season.

@L1minus10 Hindsight and all that… but seemed the right decision at the time. Take off the guy that’s coming back from injury after 65 mins, for the more than able guy who’s played well in that role all season.

Absolutely mugged off there. All our own fault. Should’ve been good enough to see the game out once ahead. Taking off Charles seemed totally unnecessary at the time and we conceded two minutes later. #saintsfc

@LeicesterFanTV He can be a decent player in the championship. However, the season will be virtually over by the time he’s got himself fit enough to make a difference and that assumes he plays every game from now.

@_scsc_ @SaintsExtra @tabuteauS Because he’s way more experienced than the player we bought, has had another season in Premier League, a couple in The Championship, and played (and scored) for England. He’s also our best CB, so of course we should hold out for more than we paid.

@L1minus10 @AlfieHouseEcho I agree at times, but fail to see what he said which is wrong here? He even acknowledges that there are always differing opinions, but I agree with him on this, the quality is often lacking in derby games and its down to fight, and we showed more of that than many expected.

@HomeAwaySaint @saintlavoo Exactly, of course we didn’t go for him. He’s in his 30’s now, hasn’t set the world alight and we couldnt afford his wages if we wanted him. He was on £100k a week when he left and had a big pay rise to go to West Ham. We are a mid-table Championship club, he’s not affordable.

@saintlavoo What makes you think we tried to get him? I'm not sure why we would try? Downes, Charles, Jander, Bragg, Romeu. Plenty of cover in there. Even Matsuki in there as well. Don't think we should be....
