If you are spending hours in offices talking about curriculum, or spending thousands on consultants talking about curriculum, or pouring over the wording of fancy docs and graphs, but the teacher next door is having behaviour nightmares every day and can't find a soul to (properly) help - incl said consultants. Well, that's one of thee most frustrating things to see or experience in education for proper quality classroom teachers, the ones actually doing it on the frontlines.

I have been reading replies/threads to this fantastic video and some things people are saying is so astonishing. Like..like..how can you find faults with this absolutely amazing teacher? I am just speechless on how people have a problem with THIS?? How?

Direct instruction is joyful & leads pupils to success. Here is a *clip* where I use high frequency & high participation questioning in 3 phases: 1. Check for listening 2. Rehearsal 3. Check for understanding Established routines: all hands up, turn & talk, SLANT & ruler reading

@DanielPeak16 @readingrsmind What’s your evidence for this? I use the same strategies and my classroom is calm and purposeful. This isn’t staged, it’s symptomatic of good routines

@readingrsmind This comes across as quite staged. It seems like the children were coached before the video, and the parents probably gave consent for their participation (otherwise, the faces would be blurred).

If literacy is taught well, it must be taught in ALL subjects. Nilab executes our vocab play perfectly. 🔺Uses ‘I say you say’ to ensure pupils correctly pronounce the new word 🧑‍🎓 Student friendly definition 📝 Models the vocabulary in a subject specific context @FgcsTlc

Building strong literate readers is the fundamental cornerstone in building effective learners. At @FgcsTlc ✅ We read with a ruler ✅ We check for listening ✅ We make meaning out of unfamiliar vocab using good habits of discussion #tlac #edutwitter

Check out how our teacher challenges her students: “this is a tricky question… we read it before we analysed the text.” She makes explicit links to prior learning. Students are thinking hard - the best indicator for learning.

I honestly think @parkrunUK could change the world . If every kid felt part of their community, was cheered on by strangers , spent time exercising in the great outdoors and focused on being personally better than the week before how amazing that would be !

@HughJRichards I’ve just sat through a whole whack of interviews. Show them your moral purpose. Make sure your vision for behaviour aligns with theirs. Show them how you would handle kids. Let them see what you’d be like (presence). Give lots of examples of how you’re already doing it

@DanielBundred I’m not defending it, but when I’ve worked in transitioning schools, SLT needed to be heavy for a variety of reasons: staff vacancies, needing to recruit, to support behaviour by doing duties every lunch time, before school, after school. It’s not about the HT at all

As schools increasingly grow their SLT with multiple tiers of senior leadership and silly arbitrary responsibilities ('AHT with school wide responsibility for homework' anyone) they take the HT further and further away from the most important function of the school - lessons.
