This was meaningful. It was an extreme act of bravery from a character who is naturally fearful & cowardly. Is it what Oda would've given Usopp in a pre-TS arc? No. But we're 16 years into the post-TS & he's only written one arc like pre-TS when it comes to the crew. The first half of WCI. He isn't trying to write post-TS like pre-TS. COULD he have given Usopp more this arc? Absolutely. Would I be mad if he did? No. Oda is a great writer. He could have dedicated this entire arc to Usopp or going forward make the back half of this arc for Usopp what the first half of WCI was for Sanji. I wouldn't mind that either. But SHOULD he or does he HAVE to? No. Bro is 50, damn near 30 yrs into the series, & can't go 5 consecutive weeks putting out chaps bc of his health. He went from 45 chaps a year to barely getting to 32 chaps a year. He's gotta abridge a lot stuff he likely wouldn't have 15 years ago if he wants to finish this story before 60. He WANTED to be done by 50 but the pandemic happened & his health issued escalated. I've noticed this & adjusted my expectations accordingly. At the end of the day, idk what ppl were expecting from Usopp this arc given how Oda's consistently written for 16 years. Usopp is crazy underpowered. Correctly so. It's what works for his character. He logically shouldn't have any meaningful combat feats this arc given who the crew is up against and what they did to the Giants. All of whom LOGICALLY should be INFINITE times stronger than him. Yes, Oda COULD write those feats in if he wanted to & ppl would accept it bc they want what they want. Hell, I wouldn't mind it either. But objectively, it's not necessary or narratively consistent. That's all I'm saying.

It wasn’t out of nowhere. It was when he saw the full scope of what was happening & how is spat in the face of everything he idolized about the warriors of Elbaph. Courage isn’t lacking fear. Usopp is not fearless like Luffy or Zoro. He’s weak & very cowardly naturally…however he summons the courage that resides in him once he’s pushed either physically or emotionally to overcome it.

Usopp has had no characterization or even focus this arc, and gets a Sogeking moment for no reason.
