@StonebrakerS Imagine folks telling Bill Belichick he doesn’t know anything about 🏈 because he never played in the NFL. Yet in wrestling it’s near impossible to get a job as a D1 head coach without standing on a podium. This past weekend was a de-facto job interview for a lot of guys.

@StacyBehr Well people seem to be so offended when someone who wasn't 🥇 themselves has an opinion on a strategy, a move or a situation Shit 90% of those in the stands for a 🏈 game couldn't crack a JR High lineup & they are all vocal!

The more popular wrestling becomes the more we're going to have to accept that not everyone with an opinion, did it themselves. Having people passionate about wrestling who were not standout wrestlers themselves This is a GOOD thing for our sport

@CoachGwJC If someone has the penalties to burn to protect a lead then by all means burn them. That’s a separate discussion. Doesn’t excuse the officials from calling earned penalties. When someone is clearly backpedaling to avoid contact they are stalling and it should be called.

@StacyBehr Many sports use some type of defense strategy to win. Cant be offense all the time. Do football teams ahead by a TD get penalized for playing prevent defense?No. Would we make them blitz every down?No. Soccer teams sit back to keep game close if underdog.Strategy to win is to win

So yesterday I saw multiple cases of guys with a lead with <20 seconds straight up completely avoiding engaging - i.e. stalling. Not even slightly subtly. Are college refs unaware hitting stalling once does not preclude them hitting again 5 seconds later if they keep stalling?

@patcolicchio Please point out where in the rules it says being previously aggressive excuses a wrestler from being called for stalling. If you avoid wrestling you are stalling. What happened previously is irrelevant.

@StacyBehr The idea that one guy can be the aggressor for 6.5 minutes then get hit for stalling twice because he is protecting a lead late is so absurd

@chelsealeite @JessPami_ It would be fine if they referred to the corresponding men’s teams as “Gentlemen [team name]” but we all know that never happens.

I say this every March Madness but my biggest sports pet peeve is when a school calls their women’s team the “Lady [insert name here]s” like it’s so unnecessary 😭😂

@johnnidijulius I think an individual sport is one you can train and compete in alone. One literally cannot wrestle by yourself. You HAVE to have at least one teammate to train. Ergo it’s a team sport.

Wrestling is a team sport. If you disagree, watch teammates after every champ won.

@johnnidijulius An equally useless aphorism is “don’t leave it in the refs hands”. Y’all know the opponent gets a say in that too, right? 😉😂 I appreciate the ownership of results be they good or bad, but everyone wrestles close matches sometimes.

My least favorite shit is when ppl try to sum up the finals “ah he just wanted it more” 😂😂. Both guys fucking want it. One guy was better at wrestling for 7 minutes. Stop summing up matches with catch phrases that don’t accurately explain why someone came up short.

Question for all: If the referee is allowed to call multiple stalls, in the last 10-20 seconds of a match, Then why don’t we see matches start with multiple stall warnings in the first 10-20 seconds?

@theee_bentley @Wisc_dad @Yuno_Mal Takedown criteria is literally whatever the official thinks “control” means. There is no canonical definition of the term anywhere in the NFHS or NCAA rulebooks. It’s all done on vibes and tribal knowledge. Refs aren’t responsible for a vague rulebook.

Won’t call stalls, don’t know what TD criteria is anymore, reaction time has no specificity to it, it’s honestly undermining the product visually. Can’t sell wrestling to new fans when mfs literally run for 50-30 seconds every single match.

@DannyGreendoner Double stalling is the most useless call in wrestling. 45 years in this sport and I’ve never once seen it affect the pace or result in scoring.

@Bkinthaflesh @GlobalWresOrder Didn’t say they had to shoot. There were wrestlers literally running away from their opponent. Defending is fine. Avoiding all contact is not.

@RudisRowley @GlobalWresOrder Stalling happens when it happens. It should be called when it happens. Running away (fleeing) is explicitly spelled out as stalling in the rulebook. If someone doesn’t have the calls to burn, probably dumb to keep running away. What you don’t penalize you permit.

@StacyBehr @GlobalWresOrder It’s not “totally fine”, you get hit with stalls for running away, 5 stall calls is a DQ. you’re saying a wrestler who disengages for 20 sec should be disqualified? Even when they’ve been causing the action the other 6:30 of the match? Maybe the loser should try to score earlier?

@GadsonStrong One important detail is to move to a one semester sport, they will have to schedule the national tournament venue multiple years in advance. Cannot change the season schedule if you are already committed to ending the season in late March for the next 5 years.

@PusheenRage They don’t have to define it in every case but control could easily be defined for the handful of most common situations. For example. 1) 3pts contact + hips behind 2) both legs gathered & defense on hips 3) defending a leg but defense in NF position for a count. Etc

@StacyBehr Its definitely difficult to define control in a way that covers every case, but here he was in the criteria that actually defined, capturing both legs and behind hips, and it still wasnt enough. At the very least we need a definition of reaction time that is not an entire 2 secs

Watching it back Yonger had Trumble in takedown criteria for at least 2 seconds. I hate this era of college wrestling. We have the most talent we've ever had while simultaneously the worst reffing that doesnt reward them and penalizes wrestlers with offense. It sucks!

@VNcaas Refs are supposed to call the match in the moment. The amount of time on the clock should never affect the decision to make a call.

@VNcaas All true but has nothing to do with excusing an official for not making a very obvious and defensible call.

Do wrestlers know if they wrestled with that much offensive urgency at the beginning of the match they wouldn’t always be behind in the last 20 seconds

@Yuno_Mal If a wrestler is stalling it should be called at any time during the match. If someone backs straight up in the first 20 seconds, call it. Last 20 seconds? Call it. Last call was 5 seconds ago & they are still clearly stalling? Call it.
