Shadow of Stadium
@StadiumShadow
Headlines from Tampa Bay #Rays' campaign for a new stadium since '09 (and other #SportsBiz stuff). Named to Forbes' #SportsMoney50 list.

In building team on field, new #Rays Tampa ballpark could be ‘transformative’. Plus rumblings. tampabay.com/sports/rays/20…

Deciding which pocket $1B+ in tax money for a Rays stadium would come from is less important than the fact that Hillsborough County and the city of Tampa would be handing over public funds that it then wouldn't have available for other uses. fieldofschemes.com/2026/05/04/240…

2) Hillsborough will seek federal HUD disaster funds to give Rays. These funds are generally earmarked to rebuild housing & infrastructure that support low-to-moderate income populations. Unclear if anyone in Rays ownership or on Rays roster qualifies as “low-to-middle income.”

@SocraticBloke You’re ignoring the fact that employees who get laid off in Oakland don’t see a rise in take-home pay. And how those employees will be replaced by lower wage employees in Sacto or LV, because jobs just don’t pay the same in those markets.

Tampa Sports Authority generated an estimated $875,000 in gross profit from the NHL Stadium Series game at Raymond James Stadium on Feb. 1 🏒 The sellout brought in $1.76M in revenue and created $900,000 in expenses. MORE: ow.ly/3Nij50YTaBy
