16 MLAs including SP Velumani has reportedly given a deadline until this evening to the AIADMK General Secretary to arrive at an amicable resolution in the ongoing party issue. After having voted in support of the government during the confidence motion, the deadline to withdraw that stand through a formal letter to the Speaker is set to expire on the 28th. In this situation, SP Velumani faction is said to be preparing to move towards the next course of action if EPS delays taking a decision any further today.

So Tamil Nadu is heading towards 5 by-polls within just one year of the new government, and that number could even increase further in the coming days. It will be interesting to see whether the same resigned MLAs recontest from these constituencies or if @TVKVijayHQ fields entirely new candidates. The bigger curiosity will be around the opposition strategy and narrative during these by-polls. Will it become a multi-cornered power packed contest? Will there be poll boycotts? Or some kind of seat-wise understanding among opposition parties? #TNpolitics

Asked senior officials in the CMO whether the recent officials appointments were made without the CM knowledge, they reportedly clarified that nothing happened without his approval. Sources say someone strongly argued that officers like him should be kept close and that he was the right choice for the post. Since the CM did not want to create major discomfort for anyone, the appointments were cleared accordingly.

Voices are now beginning to emerge from VCK regarding the induction of 3 MLAs into the @TVKVijayHQ government after resigning from the AIADMK. The Left parties and IUML are also expected to raise concerns over the move. Not sure whether @INCTamilNadu will actively take it up. The expected political explanation from the TVK side would likely be: “They are no longer part of the AIADMK that was aligned with the NDA, they resigned and joined us since they were fond of @TVKVijayHQ government.” At the same time, no one really seems to have clarity anymore on whether the AIADMK is still officially part of the NDA or not.

TVK began by declaring that they would never need the support of parties aligned with the BJP alliance to prove their majority. Ironically, the very first support they secured came from a faction of the AIADMK. The same AIADMK that contested the elections hand-in-hand with the BJP.
