Broken Arrow (1996). "Would you mind not shooting at the thermonuclear weapons." This was director John Woo's second US movie, after 1993's Hard Target with Jean-Claude Van Damme. John Travolta is the rogue Air Force Major with some hijacked nukes and Christian Slater is his betrayed co-pilot hot on his trail. Samantha Mathis is the Utah park ranger helping him out. Woo fans are a bit so-so about this one: Hollywood kept interfering to ensure it had an R rating, there's a fair bit of exposition, but there's also a lot of smart humour and excellent action scenes. Face/Off in 1997 is better remembered but Broken Arrow is still a good action film.

RIP Robert. I know a ton of propaganda has been made around tearing down Revenge of the Nerds, saying it didn’t age well and blah blah. Fuck all that. Everyone should watch it. It’s a Gen X anthem about accepting people as they are and overcoming the powers that try to keep your down and it’s one of the funniest movies ever made.
