1/8 🧵 Maths problems? One thing that jumped out at me from our @oide_Ireland Maths training was to provide low threshold, high ceiling problems for pupils. I decided to make a question for each day of November which you can play to your class. @Anseo/shorts" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">youtube.com/@Anseo/shorts

@simonlewis And that's if they can manage to actually recruit and retain the staff needed, or will it be like the CDNTs, with huge staffing gaps and high turnover?

It's important to note that these new appointments will not work directly with children. Instead they will advise teachers and staff to work directly with children in OT and SLT, without providing schools with any staffing to do so. Given that OTs and SLTs generally work one-to-one during their sessions with children and don't have to cover a curriculum, deal with everything else from first aid to social and emotional issues, I have to wonder where it's going to fit in, and how it's going to be successful for the children. Reading the press release, it sounds like movement is the answer. I'm hoping that this is a massive oversimplification of the €2.5m they are investing. Movement is already part of school days and children that require extra movement will generally need to be supervised while going on movement breaks if they are needed. This appears to be another thing that looks and sounds good on paper but , in realty, will have no positive impact on the children. If a child needs OT or SLT, they should get the best service possible, and this isn't it. It isn't even a service.

Huge thanks to the Principals across the country who represented so well today in Leinster House on behalf of our schools and pupils. We hope that our elected officials will now act on this information & prioritise Education going forward. #FundingCrisis #LackOfSENSupports

@CatrionaGolden Such a fantastic idea! As a ND person, this would make starting in a new school so much more accessible for me!

@Education_Ire Research has shown that the preference of autistic people is for identity-first language (Kenny et al. 2015, National Autism Society 2016). "Autistic" is not a dirty word and should be used by @Education_Ire ! Obviously, when speaking to/about individuals, use their preference.
