🚜@farmingUK had a positive piece on Bovaer a chemical used to reduce methane emissions in cows. Retired GP Dr Jennine Morgan @jemmm85517813 replied to them. "The chemical was found in 4/5 samples of milk tested. It was also found in liver, adrenals, muscle & brain. Ovary size was reduced. Rats treated with it failed to get pregnant. "Do you deny it says this in the study documents? Moreover, what effect does it have on soils, small mammals, insects, birds, worms etc? where are the studies? @steveridsda @DaveAtherton20 @FarmingUK @jemmm85517813 I'm a consumer. I've switched to milk from a farm that doesn't use bovaer. Interesting that farms are now advertising that they don't use it. We need to know of more farms, their produce and where they supply to, so that consumers like me can make that choice.

@DaveAtherton20 @FarmingUK @jemmm85517813 I'm a farmer, and for what it's worth my opinion is... If consumers don't want it, then don't use Bovaer. Methane hydrolyses to CO2, so there isn't even much of a global warming benefit anyway.

Here's why Bovaer is meaningless. Cows produce ~2% of US methane. Bovaer, if given to every cow in the US, would MAYBE reduce that by 25% … which would be a HALF OF ONE MEASLY PERCENT OF METHANE PRODUCTION. Oh, and if farmers inhale It, it can make them sterile. w.

This #Bovaer product is about makming money, not being environmentally sustainable. There is nothing more sustainable than the natural farming system.
