I’m confused. Why is user experience a thing. Shouldn’t this be a part of what we are doing anyway. Build products that people love using.

When you play a part in building a product that impacts a persons day to day life quality is key. What is also key is being able to recover quickly when something slips through.

Large PR's are terrible. Stop doing it. It's a balance but we all know that smaller changes move through the development pipeline faster. If you are moving through the development pipeline faster; merge conflicts are minimized. #releasethehounds

Currently I write tests after the code is written, and one thing I have found is when writing unit tests your energy goes into thinking through the data that drives the behavior of the unit under test and accurately capturing that

Tests that talk to the database are the devils work. If you must use a database in your tests (Django), then the data should be isolated to the test and the teardown should nuke the data your test depends on.

Technology is a means to an end. At the end of the day the tech doesn’t matter. Consistently delivering value to your customers matters.

I have been writing tests lately. Some unit, some integration, and what I have found is it's easy to write a naive tests. Writing tests requires just as much focus and attention as the code that get shipped to production.

From a career standpoint the moment you feel like a Senior Dev is the moment you should move on (This varies be person and goals of course). There is always more to lean and apply in this industry.

I have learned more about development process in the last 2 months than I have in my entire career.

Documentation is critical. If it gets stale that means it wasn't useful to begin with. Valuable documentation is maintained.

You know what makes developers happy. It’s knowing what they are doing and shipping features. Optimize for that.

People come and go in companies but I have seen the largest disruption to any organization is when leadership changes. Excellent leadership builds excellent companies.
