@joaquin_roth 80 points. Correct captaincy on Tuesday would have done me better. Sitting 52,824

#UCLFantasy R16 – 1st Leg Wrapped Up ✅
GW Points: 67
Total: 895 | OR: 5,669 🌍
Another tiny green arrow, which at this stage of the season almost feels meaningless.
- Arsenal had to work very hard to rescue a draw against Leverkusen in Germany.
PSG delivered and comfortably beat Chelsea 5–2.
Bodø surprised everyone with a 3–0 win.
And the biggest shock of the round came from Real Madrid, something I honestly didn’t expect. The tie isn’t technically over, but overturning a three-goal deficit will be extremely difficult for City.
All of this, combined with Tuesday’s results, reinforces one key concept: Winning away in Europe is incredibly difficult.
- On a personal note, I also got a bit fortunate by keeping the captaincy on Yamal. Vitinha ended up scoring more points, but switching the armband to him never truly convinced me. As many of you already know, when I start overthinking decisions like that, it usually leads me away from the most rational choice. Sometimes sticking with your initial instinct is the best move.
- Now the big talking point going into the second leg: yellow cards and suspensions. For example, Olise is suspended for the next match.
Many managers will now wonder whether it’s worth selling him and then bringing him back for the QF.
That would cost 2 of our 8 available transfers.
My view is simple: it’s team dependent.
If you have luxury moves available, prioritizing 15 active players for the second leg absolutely makes sense.
But we also need to be mindful of teams currently at risk of elimination.
Right now the biggest concerns are:
- Chelsea
- Sporting
- City
All three are three goals down.
Could they come back? Of course, this is football. But realistically, they have the odds against them.
Then we have a second tier of uncertainty:
- Liverpool (currently behind, but still strong favorites in my opinion)
- Barcelona (favorites as well, but not completely safe)
- Arsenal
In a best-case scenario, most favorites advance and booked transfers won’t hurt too much.
But if City and Sporting go out, many teams will suddenly be carrying two or more eliminated assets (Haaland, Semenyo, Luis Suárez, Catamo, plus City defenders).
If Liverpool were to fall as well, combinations like VVD / Szoboszlai / Salah / Wirtz / Ekitike could suddenly create real problems.
And in the worst-case scenario, Barcelona or Arsenal going out, the chaos would be massive for almost everyone.
We’ll dive much deeper into all of this in the next preview, which will be a bit shorter for obvious reasons.
It should be out Monday, March 16th around 9am UTC.
In the meantime, I’m curious:
- How did this round go for you?
- Where are you sitting in the overall rankings now?
- And most importantly, what are your plans for transfers heading into the second leg?

@GameweekGuru Bring him in just to bench him though? I see more upside from Wilson. Got like 1 mil in the bank
English

@StashDaDon I’d just do Saka to Rice and leave it at that. No point having Saka when he’s not going to play/only drop in price further
English

@GameweekGuru Do have to get a Chelsea attacker in. A toss up between Enzo and Estevao. Like Estevao as a differential... But his minutes are a worry. Also need Van den Berg out.
English

@GameweekGuru Yeah,.got money in the bank. But then who would I bench. Gakpo?

@GameweekGuru Nah no WC yet. Wilson's in good form and Tavernier minutes are good with Semenyo going (although I'm seeing news that Bournemouth has agreed on personal terms with Rayan
English

@StashDaDon Cunha to Gakpo definitely. Are you planning on WC24? If so I wouldn’t get Tav yet - can wait till 24 and the FTs will be valuable

GW22 #FPL Team Thoughts 💭
The squad’s in a good place overall, with strong fixtures across the board. Thiago is the slight exception, but given his form I’m happy to back him for a return. I’ve got 2FTs and £0.3m ITB going into the week.
The obvious move is moving on Cunha. With Bruno back, his upside takes a hit: no pens, fewer set-pieces so it feels like the right time to call it. The Cunha punt didn’t quite land, but I still think it was the correct path at the time.
Cody Gakpo really stands out as a short-term play to effectively dead-end the team ahead of WC24. He’s posting 0.51 xGI/90, scored recently against Fulham, and if Ekitike is back, Gakpo should shift back to the left where he looks most natural. That would give me Ekitike, Gakpo and Szobo vs Burnley, which feels like a fixture worth attacking.
At £0.9m cheaper than Wirtz, Gakpo also keeps flexibility. That opens the door to either using the second FT to double up on a defender for GW22–23, or keeping room for a potential Semenyo move in GW23 against Wolves.

@GameweekGuru For midfield
I got Saka, Wirtz, Minteh, Cunha and Anderson. Defense: Gabriel, Alderete, Thiaw, Van den Berg, Richards
English

@StashDaDon Bowen's not bad but I think there's weight in the 1 striker approach and backing 5-4-1, 4-5-1.
So you could move Woltemade to Kroupi for example and reinvest those saved funds into a premium midfielder.

GW20 #FPL Bus Team 🚌
All chips back on the table for the second half of the season. I’ve got £0.4m ITB and 1FT.
My main concern is Paquetá after he went off holding his lower back vs Brighton, if he’s OK, I’m leaning towards moving Lacroix on for a Spurs defender.
Pedro Porro stands out to me with Spurs’ upcoming fixtures and his reliability for minutes.
I also like Gordon, but Newcastle’s schedule (Wolves sandwiched between the EFL Cup and Champions League) makes rotation a concern in the medium-term.
Haaland is the obvious captain this week. Caicedo suspended, Cucurella a doubt, and Chelsea currently without a manager.
