Standing Up for ALL Alberta Families Premier Smith has taken a very public stance on the national and international stage about standing up for Alberta and for Alberta families. This phrase highlights her dedication to policies that support and protect the well-being of the province, the economy, and its citizens. We agree with that position — and believe it must apply, unapologetically, to Alberta’s public school system. Public schools are a choice — and for the vast majority of Alberta families, they are the first and best choice. They welcome every child, in every community, without screening, selection, or barriers. Public education is where inclusion, diversity, and equal opportunity come to life. No other system is designed to do this — and no other system is as critical to the success of our province. And let’s be clear: public schools also offer choice within the system. From Advanced Placement (AP) and International Baccalaureate (IB), to science and technology programs, arts academies, language immersion, and more — public education provides high-quality, specialized programming that challenges and supports high achievers, while still remaining open and accessible to all. While charter and private schools serve a small portion of the population, public schools serve as the backbone of a thriving, democratic society. They prepare future citizens, workers, innovators, and leaders — not just a select few, but all of them. Standing up for Alberta families means ensuring that public schools are not sidelined, but prioritized. It means investing in the system that serves everyone, not diverting support to alternatives at its expense. If we want a strong, prosperous Alberta, we must champion the system that lifts all Albertans. Let’s stand up — for public education, for equity, and for Alberta’s future. #psbaa #abschools #abpublicschools
