Bizarre that such an ordinary statement from Kensington Palace is being taken as some kind of massive public “commitment” to the Church of England. The Prince of Wales is clearly one of those lukewarm Christians, which have probably been the majority of Britain for centuries.

@MichaelPTKelly It’s such a dishonesty to claim a history that just isn’t your own. She’s the successor of Thomas Cranmer not st Augustine!

@Will___lloyd @Alexx_Regal No one I know says that the Prince of Wales is an intellectual powerhouse but intelligence is more than reading or academic prowess.

The real question raised by this: does William’s “quiet faith” involve any reading?

Curious rumour going round that Justin Welby, furious at his treatment by the CofE, has considered becoming a Catholic.

"William’s stance on his relationship with the Church, which he feels reflects the nation’s shifting attitudes towards Christianity . . .' Found this interesting - a focus on faith in the Church ('I might not be at church every day but I believe in it') rather than God.

@NormanHermant I really prefer crepes. I grew up calling them pancakes and the pancake-y thickness, I did smaller versions of and called them pikelets.

Australia 🇦🇺 is a fantastic country. The food is outstanding. But pancakes are not a strength. Don’t overthink it. Two pancakes. Butter. Maple syrup (preferably 🇨🇦). Bacon 🥓 . Don’t ’cafe fancify’ it. Fancified Regular

Well put. I note that Farage & co talking about banning mass religious observances would take out e.g. Catholic Corpus Christi parades. But this doesn't seem to register with anyone on the nominally culturally conservative right-wing of British politics.
Yuan Yi Zhu@yuanyi_z

The collapse of the Prostant/Roman divide and its replacement with undifferentiated cultural Christianity in the UK is a very obvious sign of the Americanisation of UK discourse.

@Gizzerwiz @AjaTheEmpress You might as well also point out all the times Christians have fought against each other. There have been times of conflict between Christians and Muslims, and times of peace.

@Steeplemaster @AjaTheEmpress You say "current" I assume you have heard of the Crusades? How about when the Moors invaded Spain? Worked their way up to Tours in France when they were repelled I assume you have heard of the Barbary Slavers? How about what they did to Greece? This ancient history, not "current"

In the last 10 years an estimated 35,000 to over 60,000 Nigerian Christians have been murdered by Nigerian Islamists. But our "Christian" King seems to think that's what living in peace means.
Tim Dieppe@TDieppe

King Charles: "Nigeria has long shown: that people of different faiths can, do, and must live alongside one another, in peace, in harmony and in shared purpose.” Does he have no idea of the level of persecution of Christians in Nigeria? gbnews.com/royal/king-cha…

@DanielJHannan The only people able to exercise political power are those chosen by the British prople through the ballot box. Odd how the America you admire so much seems to manage with 100 elected senators, not 800 unelected cronies particularly those like yourself who were rejected.

The hereditaries are again trooping through the lobbies, making small but important improvements to the Pension Schemes Bill. Almost all of them were here until after midnight last night voting dutifully on the Crime Bill. They have all been served notice. Yet they are working to the last minute, putting the rest of us to shame.
Daniel Hannan@DanielJHannan

Three of Starmer’s nominees have already been brought down by revelations about their pasts. No one - literally no one - believes that the rest of us are here “through public service and merit”. We are a collection of quangocrats, trade union dinosaurs, councillors and ex-MPs.
