There has never been a better time to preserve our history. Gaussian splats are effectively immersive photographs - a snapshot of reality, preserved forever to explore. 🏛️✨ @PlayCanvas SuperSplat lets you walk through historical monuments in your browser as if you were actually there. 🧵

Building a sparse voxel octree for #GaussianSplat collision in #SuperSplat. Scene capture by @Schindelar3D: - 5 cm voxels — 340K interior nodes, 485K leaf bricks - 3.3 MB on disk - Generated in 8s on M4 via GPU-accelerated voxelization - Debug overlay: WebGPU compute shader ray-marching the octree per pixel in real time

@lukejdarling @willeastcott @playcanvas Generally, a sphere camera array works well! Crossed flyover grids too! Better to have more renders than not enough! After all, it depends on your scene & the desired interaction! 😊

@StephaneAgullo @willeastcott @playcanvas What’s your solution to good quality view distance to the horizon? Extra sets of cameras pointing outwards higher up so the user can raise and lower the camera in playcanvas without noticing artefacts?

Why wait for a building to be finished to walk through it? Mixing synthetic Gaussian splats from rendered images with photo-based splats for backdrops lets real estate projects become instantly explorable, interactive experiences. 🏡 [1 / 2]

@lukejdarling @willeastcott @playcanvas This remains in the principle of photogrammetry, but since the splats are very dependent on the view, you really have to make renderings from all the viewing angles you want at the end! 😊
