This week I had the please of speaking at the launch of HFT and Care England's Sector Pulse Check 2024. The reality is clear, the sector is in crisis and the govt needs to go further, faster. That's why @CommonsHealth is investigating the cost of inaction on social care reform.

The social care sector is indispensable to the UK economy. Every £100 spent on social care reduces NHS spending by £35. The sector contributes around £68.1bn annually to the economy. Every £1 invested in social care brings £2.36 in socioeconomic benefits. #ValueSocialCare

@blimeysimon Thank you Simon for a great piece. Another thing is building momentum. I’m telling every person I know to ask each and every prospective candidate they come across, whatever colour they are, to ask about social care. If enough people ask it can be an election topic.

@blimeysimon @skillsforcare The question on who pays is an interesting one @blimeysimon as NLW increase from last year is 9.8%, the gov settlement for LA’s was about 7.5% and at the moment, for my organisation which contracts with 114 LA’s and ICB’s is being offered just over 4.5% uplift. Some offering 0%!

This is remarkable from @skillsforcare. Around 570,000* careworkers will be due a pay rise on April 1st because they are currently paid below the new minimum wage of £11.44. Around 19 in 20 providers will need to pay at least some of their staff more. 1/3 skillsforcare.org.uk/Adult-Social-C…
