@theScore @CaseyToGo It’s not news. They do this for bigger events, such as the Grey Cup

@SteveClarkMedia Ofc it would. But winning a championship on home soil is meaningful to the school and community.
The sad truth is, if you win a national championship on the road, there is no celebration from the community and student body to magnitude of winning a conference title at home
English

@StephensPRSVRE When I was at McMaster in the 90’s and calling their games on radio, the team lost 4 finals in Halifax. Trust me, slaying that dragon would have meant the world to that program. Same with the women. When they broke through in 2019 it was pure elation.
English

@TimJamesMedia It’s not about which championship being more important. It’s about what means more. So winning a championship in a sold out gym in front of your home fans is 100% more meaningless in the grand scheme of memories and experience than winning a national title on the road.
English

Home crowds are amazing, but man, can you really beat a national title? UBC women's volleyball, for example -- past 10 years: 4 nationals, 0 conference titles. Winning the CW isn't important.

In U SPORTS, I think there’s a case to be made that conference championships mean more than National Championships depending on where they’re won. Conference titles on home soil - mean everything. Memories last forever. National titles in neutral venue, none of YOUR fans. idk
English

@Casey_LeighD Yes, Carleton travels, UBC travels but that’s just 2 schools. I feel like most schools don’t have significant fan sizes that travel. So winning a national title on paper is the bigger accomplishment 100% but I don’t know if it feels as good as winning a conference title at home
English

@StephensPRSVRE There are schools who have their alumni and students attend national championships though I'll say it's a lot more common in basketball than other sports. I have covered countless Final 8s and the No. 1 fanbase is Carleton Ravens and second is UBC.
English

@Casey_LeighD But it’s about whether or not students and alumni travel. For most schools that’s a no. So the national championship isn’t really as celebrated as something won on home soil
English

@StephensPRSVRE I understand your point for sure but it also depends on the school too. Some schools have great alumni and students no matter where the national championship is held.
English

@StephensPRSVRE I'll go one step futher - how about we invest in sport period. :)
