@nonewthing @JvanderB78 As defending systems became more compact, with the 1st line always dropping, shadowing the 6 space it naturally forced the ball the most to the players who are at the back and outside of the defensive structure. Now it's changing a bit by allowing more flexibility to the MFs.

@SteveBeregi @JvanderB78 I haven’t read the piece but this excerpt doesn’t seem to admit the influence of the opposition approach on this

More than a year ago it was already clear that this loophole in the rules will cause future damages. What happened since? Almost every team copied it and uses the same formula, and since this "meatwall" has no solutions by the rules it works every time. Change the rules maybe?
István Beregi@SteveBeregi

I had this thought in mind for quite long now, but now I'm pretty sure that Arsenal found the loophole in the rules regarding corners & blocking the GK. They do these so well, that the refs won't call it, yet they always prevent the GK's movement with "dirty" movements.

Solution idea against man-marking - move midfielders close to GK (Bernardo-Rodri), leave 6 space more open, in this way midfielders will start to play and try to get behind the opp. 1st line and not CBs - last year Inter did some good movements v. Bayern using this concept

If every coach dress the same, why would we expect their football to be any different. Especially at the age of the white sneakers. But I guess if Guardiola would switch back to suits & ties everyone copied that. istvnberegi.substack.com/p/a-feher-snea…

Pat Riley says he wishes NBA coaches still wore suits and ties: “I think when fans look over at the sidelines they want to see someone that looks like a leader.” (via @ramonashelburne)

@marton8_kerekes It's not always necessary to talk about this, sometimes enough to enjoy the game. Even without the xG we all know the chances to score from that spot, that xG value adds absolutely nothing to this context.

"My concern is less about what is objectively right or wrong in football, and more about how we, as analysts and coaches, sometimes present our ideas as universal truths." Thank you. Please take your time and read this.

Maybe I misunderstood, but I would say the exact opposite. Inverted wingers due to the 1st touch are able to "push" the last line deeper, as it will delay the press & natural wingers will "pull" as they could be pressed "easier". A run in general will always "push".
Meia Armador@MeiaArmador__

Using a player’s foot preference is the most effective way to condition individual intentions and, consequently, team intentions. As a general rule, strong-footed players offer more “push” dynamics, while wrong-footed players offer more “pull” dynamics. These intentions can be further categorised into off-the-ball movement and dribbling or carrying intentions. To put it simply, push dynamics are what push the defensive line deeper, for example, a run in behind from the winger. Pull dynamics are what pull the defensive line higher, for example, a winger cutting inside. This is the crux of stretching any defensive block vertically. You can use these concepts to reverse engineer exactly what you want from the player or the team, based on what you want to emphasise or who you want to maximise. The clearest recent example is Raphinha, who went from a creator-type winger on the right to an in-behind outlet on the left. On a team level, the City Centurions are a good example. With strong-footed interiors and wingers, as soon as they found the front five, the tempo went up, and they were direct in pushing the defensive line, which is primarily why they were so effective offensively.

I remember Bruce Arians’ philosophy is that if as a staff member you miss a family occassion then it will be him who will fire you. Leadership is this. Pursuing that last small detail might look important, but staying mentally healthy will put everything onto a different level.

New #Bills HC Joe Brady, talking about the sacrifices coaches’ wives make, mentioned how he once called his wife on the way to a game while she was going into labor — and found out after the game that she had given birth on her own. “This game takes away time, energy, and presence from you, and you’ve carried the weight that comes with this job so I can pursue my calling.”
