This is what we’re up against. Refs are already letting Arizona get away with murder. TKR being held with both hands by the Arizona defender on the inbounds. Foul on TKR.

Arizona is the most complete, most matchup-proof team in the country. Wildcats completely flipped the script in the second half. Dominated the glass, stopped turning the ball over, and were the aggressor. Arizona is the best team in the country.

@BA_Nasty Still crying like this is the reason Arkansas lost the game. Dude, Arkansas lost by TWENTY. Do you moan like this after every loss? This ins’t healthy.

@AdamFord92 Yeah, for 36 games Arizona has baited the officials into falsely calling more fouls for them than the opposition. Nothing to do with strategy, ability to get to the paint or skill. It’s just that CTL has everyone in the nation hoodwinked, but especially the officials. Cry on.

Arizona when they don’t benefit from a ton of foul calls is a very different team. (And yes, Purdue is much better-suited than Arkansas to create that kind of game.)

@Zebekyia @milbrewfan @GoldandBurner Out of position, and fouling. They were blocked out and fouled. Same thing, common expression that everyone understands. Here is something else everyone understands, it was a good game, Arizona outplayed Purdue. Purdue didn’t lose because of officiating.

Every single Arizona player is fouling a Purdue player on this rebound attempt. Braden thrown to the ground. No call.

I just looked this up, due to a comment from an Arizona player. Arizona free throws, through 3 NCAA tournament games, vs the other 3 teams combined. Rd 1: 33 free throws vs 10 free throws Rd 2: 39 free throws vs 11 free throws Rd 3: 39 free throws vs 26 free throws Arizona in tournament: 111 free throws. Other 3 teams combined: 48 free throws Seems reasonable. I guess nobody can play defense without fouling, aside from Arizona. Arizona has 63 MORE free throws than the other three teams combined. The free throw disparity is greater than the total free throws combined by the opposing 3 teams. Wow.

@AdamFord92 Let me help you. Arizona won because they are flat out better as a team. Calipari said so. Deal.

I’ll try to help: “Arizona was a bad matchup for Arkansas and won because they dominated the paint” and “College refs are increasingly struggling to consistently officiate taller players, leading to the monostrategy seen by all four 1-seeds this year, and on full display in this horrendously-officiated game” Are not contradictory statements, and making the second statement does not nullify the first. The second one is something I’ve been following and writing about all season, long before this game.

As much as I appreciate Calipari’s emphasis on ethical basketball, this is the sort of game you win with Musselman’s “sell everything” philosophy. Arizona is flopping like crazy while Arkansas’ guys are fighting through two-hand shoves

@AdamFord92 Sorry for your loss, dude. It’s tough. But as I said, lose by 6-8 points maybe refs can affect the outcome. Lose by 20, clearly outplayed. The sarcasm is intentional as your team gave it as well as they took it. There’s always next year.

@therandomsec When you lose a game by 6-8 points, sometimes you have a legit point about officiating. Arkansas lost because they are not on the same level.

Arkansas getting hosed by the officials. Acuff drives in gets hammered, no call. Malique Ewin touches someone on the other end, foul. If this continues, hogs have no chance.

Regardless of what happens on Saturday, if Tommy Lloyd is not Arizona's coach next year then fans should boycott UA athletics until they clean house.

There have been clues, but a lot of things never appear in public so those registering shock are on the outside looking in. Just like no one outside your company, or co-workers can imagine the rivalry and inside politics, this is what has happened, and to some extent at many places. The best fundraiser, an Assistant AD left, not long ago. Loved and respected by everyone, boosters, etc. On track to take over her own program, etc. She got the combined biggest donations of anyone ever at Arizona, a real rainmaker. Someone you’d kind of want to have around, especially when you’re in a financial crunch, as Arizona was. Apparently, the AD has mostly balanced the books, which is good. This much is sure, if CTL goes somewhere else, it will come out bit by bit, and Arizona BB fans will be quite upset.

Michael Jordan is expected to be at this evening’s Arkansas v Arizona Sweet 16 game. Michael has been heavily involved in the coaching search and is expected to be meeting with Tommy Lloyd prior to tonight’s tip, sources close to UNC tell me.

If Lloyd were to leave there would only be one reason. He likes it here, has an 80% winning record, and going deep into the tournament would solidify his status as a rising coach. So, apart from winning which he has done, and money which is good, then you can just read between the lines and figure out what could possibly make him unhappy about his current situation at Arizona. Eliminate money, eliminate all that stuff. OK, now you’ve figured it out. You’re welcome.

Here’s why I don’t buy the rumors of Tommy Lloyd leaving. There are three outcomes to this season: 1) Loses in the Sweet 16. If that happens, he’s 0-4 in Sweet 16 games (1-3 ATS). Didn’t UNC just fire Hubert for being good not great? 2) Makes the Final Four and beyond. I have a hard time seeing Tommy leave if he just made the Final Four, particularly with the class coming in. Shows you’re capable of being best in the country. 3) Loses in Elite 8. The trickiest one by far because he’ll have gotten further than he ever has but it’ll also mean he lost in the Elite 8 as a favorite again If I had to guess, Otzelberger is going to the hottest name for both UNC and Kansas
