The 150 homes they're opposing will be literally next door to the tube station. This is the perfect location for desperately needed new homes.

I don't see how that would work. The marginal cut in cost seems unlikely to offset the advantages of using AI if AI is 'better' at the job. Or am I missing something?

Welbeck is a perfect example that you can be a solid player but not quite cut out for the very top clubs. Not good enough for United or Arsenal, but what a player he’s been for Brighton.

Today in all schools, local, British and world history are on the curruculum but the pupil has options not to take any class. The paltry British history that is taught is about great battles (Waterloo, Trafalgar, Culloden, Spanish Armada, Hastings 1066. Bosworth Field. There is very little teaching of The Famine, the single most catastrophic disaster in all of Europe in the 19th century. There are far more serious issues than whether or not Adams was in and out of the IRA. The Glenanne gang, composed of rogue RUC, army paramilitary and MI5 agents killed in the region of 120 innocent Catholics mostly around mid Northern Ireland. How about a proper inquiry into that disgrace and stop wasting everyone's time,. Innocent victims during The Troubles need to know the truth

@WilliamsGe34688 @transjewtalian Agree. The narrative around this is very weird. Some IRA types seem to think it's a 'gotcha' in ways I cannot really identify. I can't imagine the BBC gave a damn, or even noticed it. Why would they? If anything, it's more offensive to Irish people than Brits.

@transjewtalian I don't get it. Everyone salivates over this. It's just some resistance songs So what? Is nobody in the UK allowed to go on the BBC and say that Irish resistance sang songs 100 years ago that were negative about English troops ?

I don’t think Ed Davey will last until the next general election. It’ll be Daisy Cooper or Joshua Babarinde. Maybe Layla Moran. Probably Cooper, actually. But yeah I think they’ll get rid of him.

The UK triple lock is the singlest stupidest policy in the entire Western world, and the most damaging to the future of a country. Of course, it is also untouchable and almost undiscussed in the UK press. @mattyglesias does a big favour to the UK public here.

Spot on. We’ve come to fetishise “local representatives” far too much, a symptom of our politics becoming smaller and more parochial. What we need is quality national politicians. If they have to be “parachuted” in, and they spend more time in SW1 than the constituency, so be it.

Agree. This was a big issue with Labour in 2019/24. I tried to be a candidate but found that an obsession with locality basically eliminates your options. Part of me even feels local candidates should be *banned* to ensure selection takes place according to ability.

@SteveMacey1985 @Layo_FH George Osborne's decision to allow developers to reduce their previously agreed level of affordable housing on the basis of dodgy viability assessments

It’s really really bad for society that the general public do not understand the economics of house building (study after study shows that even luxury flats, make housing overall, more affordable), but it’s particularly terribly when politicians don’t.

@Layo_FH I understand that 15 years of 'trickle down' Reagan'omics in planning policy has done nothing to make house prices or market rents in Tower Hamlets more affordable to locals. Instead they get the terrible overdevelopment like on Marsh Wall + severely overstretched public services
