I will be building the July indie author list early. The list consists of fifty authors and fifty titles. The book must be a standalone or the first in a series. A link and cover image is required. Both will be featured in my newsletter on July 1st.
So drop your book cover and its link in the comments.
Let's build the list!

@Kacey_Combs I just fly by the seat of my pants. The last book trended toward horror, which is surprising. Given the action and how everything unfolds, it makes sense now. The next book is already darker... I never meant to write horror, but I let the story drive the theme.

How do you ensure your themes are clear and your main character has a clear emotional journey and arc?

@eileenwanita Oh, it's not hard to find a publisher! It's the publishing part that's hard 😆 🤣 😂
English

@joannenwrites I'm still getting rejection letters after 2 years, sadly 😥 but it is an abyss
English

@AuthorGFAllen I finished those final pages
I'm ambivalent
Bittersweet victory that needs a day to stew on (I can't believe this will be another completed project)
English

@stepha_henson I think age and experience lends itself more to being able to capture nuanced storytelling. I'm not saying a young person is incapable, just that they don't have a wealth of lived knowledge to pull from. 🤔
English

@JDStorm54 I just finished rewriting mine. Tell me what you think... Dude does stuff, people get pissed, dude fixes stuff, and everyone goes to dinner. The end 😆
English

@Kacey_Combs I just designed my cover. So maybe I'll take a break for the night and get back to editing again tomorrow!

What are your writing goals for this weekend?
Give me all the details.

@FeignedShadows I'll add: someone gets mad
It heightens the stakes without being super vague. I'd say it keeps you on the edge of your seat, but what if you're not sitting or borrowing the chair

@AuthorGoodwin If it's not organic, I don't talk about it. I'm excited when I'm asked and freely chat, but if that chat fizzles out due to ongoing chats, it's time to shut it down. I could go on for months about the goals but I only get a few minutes...

Does anyone wish people they meet would show more interest in their writing?
I'm thinking of getting a t-shirt made that says:
"ask me about my books!"

@graspfire This is what my tax refund gets me, right? Please, please, please say yes 😆 🤣 😂

@LouiseWeebe Have you ever heard of the movie called Highlander? The battle cry is... there can only be one. Paramount is making a spin-off about a woman in a book store, and her battle cry is... You can never buy just one!!! It's already rated 123% in rotten tomatoes, true story
English

@vixfar I've received 2 reviews with a bit less sales. I even chatted a fan off of goodreads, and he didn't a feedback. It'll happen one day... maybe... right? 😆
English

@Kacey_Combs I'm doing this rn myself. Hard copy, line by line edits! Then, it'll be sent to an editor.
English

They say this is what will get you published, but damn it’s hard work.
Who can relate?

English

@_Knight_writer Yep, had a beta reader say exactly that, and I experienced it. Then again, those same readers will also say you should reveal one of the side characters is a vampire sooner (it was intimated in the opening dialog 😆)
English

@LiteraryLucille I recently removed a few chapters because the character interactions didn't drive the plot, and the amount of words wasn't worth keeping. I also removed a character because he only purpose was to drive the inciting incident, and then she was no more. I gave that role to another

Help. #WritingCommunity
I’m considering deleting a POV character from my book 😭 but I’m so attached. I just am not sure she is needed. She was just so fun to write.
Anyone been there? What did you do???

@sanchez_m_m I've had beta readers ask questions when the answer is literally on the first page. You can drench them in the water you led them to, and they'll miss it. The best one was when the beta said I should have explained a plot twist sooner *attach Fillion gif here 😆
