I was today years old when I realized that those who didn't serve think we're talking about running and doing pushups in basic training when we mention the word training. It simply didn't occur to me that they don't realize basic is just the start of one's military training and conditioniong. That they don't know about things like full equipment night jumps followed by 12 mile ruck marches with 90 lbs of gear or all the dangerous shit soldiers are made to do involving aircraft and vehicles. They have no idea what the non-deployed life of an infantryman is like...
