Texas is becoming a test case for the global data-centre revolt. Residents are not just complaining about AI online anymore. Counties, councils, water advocates and local campaigners are starting to push back in the real world. And can you blame them? We are being told to use less, pay more, drive less, heat less, and accept higher bills while power-hungry data centres are being dropped onto strained grids and water systems to feed AI, cloud storage, surveillance, advertising, voice cloning, video generation, and even digital “copies” of the dead. That is the real story hiding underneath the shiny AI sales pitch. The fight is no longer left versus right. It is communities versus infrastructure that consumes city-scale amounts of electricity, drinks from local water supplies, stresses roads and grids, and often delivers far fewer local jobs than promised. Texas may be the test case. But Ireland, Britain, Europe and rural America should all be asking the same question: Why are ordinary people being lectured about their carbon footprint while Big Tech is handed the keys to the power station? And Texas who have just announced a one year moratorium/pause on their centres.😉👍
