@GEMcCallum Ah Greg I’m so sorry you had to go through that (again!). Top job by the surgeon on those stitches though, hope you bounce back stronger than ever!

Not so fun for me but very glad to be home after 7 weeks in hospital following a 14.5 hour heart surgery. Turns out I've had endocarditis for nearly 9 years despite years of antibiotic treatment. Hopefully the surgery and antibiotics this time will clear it 🤞🫀💊
Contamination Club@ContamClub

Fun fact about this year's ContamCalendar - it was created entirely from a hospital bed after I spent 7 weeks in hospital following heart surgery. This surgery was actually partially related to both contamination and the ContamCalendars.... 📆🫀🩺🦠

@LillyCummins_ Well done Lilly! I can’t believe it’s that time already, hope there’s a chapter in there on the optimal methodology for Lilly-sipping.

@rrwick I wonder if part of the Canu edge is its use of read correction/trimming/downsampling? Be interested to see how Flye performs on the Canu-corrected reads, and if that improves Medaka polishing given the training set is based on Flye assemblies.

I was a little surprised to see that Canu produced better assemblies than Flye for 4/5 genomes. I still like Flye a lot (it's faster, easier to run, produces an assembly graph), but I'll be using Canu more going forward. (4/4)

#dataviz question… I’d like to show MIC values, SNP/mutation info and relate this back to 24 strains from 4 different populations (independent experiments). Does anyone know of a nice way to put all of this together?🫠

Have you read our latest blog by @hannahpugh? She takes us behind the scenes of her research 'E. coli ST11 (O157:H7) does not encode a functional AcrF efflux pump', published in microbiology and led by @JessicaMABlair. Read it on our website here 👉microb.io/3V8NrDP
