@FLOTUK @_graceymae People who be called ‘foodies’, are curious about Nigerian food and would normally spend £££ for a multi-course meal (maybe with a wine pairing) at a similarly positioned restaurant. I think Enish and 805 have a more Nigerian demog, as they’re more ‘authentic’

The high-end Nigeria restaurant market is taking two major hits in London Is this what happens when you make British-Nigerian middle class your target audience?

@SteveKabuye5 Valid, because look at South Africa, which is more tolerant of the lgbt community vs how they treat Nigerians

@sahilk It’s also the same with the houses of rich Africans. They’ll splurge on decorating the living spaces, but kitchen will be near decrepit because only the help use them. Completely the opposite in the west, where for rich people, kitchens are status symbols

@Funminz I visited in December 2023 for the first time in 18 years and had a great time, but I didn’t go to any clubs!

@theashrb I once saw someone try to start an intra-regional diaspora war between north London Nigerians and Greenwich Nigerians 🤣

@jbmypn @piouslila That makes so much sense. I know that in the UK, there were even pro-black Sunday schools started by West Indian immigrants.

@StevenO_94 @piouslila There's an effort made to try to be pro-Caribbean which includes the Black aspect but isn't limited to it as there are many ethnicities on the islands. Plus a solid culture of orally transmitted stories, myths and traditions knitted in that identity of mixed ancestry

Another thing I loved about Brazil. Every black person wore their Afro hair with pride. Finding black hair products was so so easy as well

@piouslila Thank you. This was very interesting. I’ve heard Caribbean education is more pro-black, even though certain islands have issues with bleaching. Is this true and do you think it plays a part?

@StevenO_94 @ProlificH1 this is a very complex phenomenon & there are so many contributing factors I was born & raised in the Caribbean. The fast paced life in America and Europe make extensions more desirable & practical for BW. I think lifestyle & the way western society is structured exacerbates it

@luveyaw @ProlificH1 Obviously I’m not debating your very valid experiences, but my point is that there are many BW in the Caribbean and LatAm with tighter textures, who don’t wear wigs, which is what I’m curious about

@jojoldn I think travel is also playing a part in this, with some people ‘trading up’ to go to events in Paris, Amsterdam or doing a couple of expensive trips in the year to Lagos, Ghana or Rio, all of which require saving money, making going out in the UK less of a priority

something i’ve noticed this year: gone are the days where an event sells out in an instant. i think it’s cos of a few reasons: - abundance of choice - economy - fatigue - ppl r growing up

@SoftgirlLumi Surely Nigerian food has the opposite problem in that almost every dish revolves around meat(s), fish, offal, snails or a combination of those things? My cousin once said that Nigerians don’t eat enough fruit and vegetables because of that

@FATMFanClub @nyrealestateman I feel like there’s going to be a notable shift between FATM 1-3 and 4-6, where 1-3 relies on religion, myth, art and literature to convey its themes, but 4-6 abandon that for plain-speak and existentialism. If I had to choose, it’s 1-3.

@nyrealestateman She certainly is! She's at a point in life and career where she's established herself as a music 'icon' but still feels her life in flux. Her facing her own mortality in 2023 I think struck the tension between the two home harder than ever before
