As a teacher myself, so many teachers are so insufferable. Holier than thou mentality. Complaining, feeling disrespected, working so much out of school etc. It’s a great job. The breaks are a tremendous blessing when you have a family. Get a different job if you don’t like it

@Guy25Rando12987 Not necessarily true. Watch the playoffs. Hitting is harder today than ever because the pitching is so, so good. It’s hard to get hit after hit after hit. Teams that out homer teams in the playoffs win 82% of the time. A team with a better average in a game win 73% of the time.

@StevenS2313 A team full of guys who bat .300 plus would beat a team in a series full of .250 and below guys with higher OPS any time assuming OBP is the same. Schwarber is a great power hitter, but a shit hitter overall

Can't directly reply to you for some reason so here's the response. Bat Avg makes you a better hitter. OPS is fancy for how many bases,not productivity. Line up placement factors in with teammates. OPS is an extended base count

@Guy25Rando12987 Yandy Diaz, Nick Gonzalez, Jung Hoo Lee, Troy Johnston and Josh Jung have higher BA than Juan Soto, Shohei Ohtani, Jordan Walker, PCA, Freddie Freeman, and James Wood. All the ladder guys have a higher OPS. You tell me who you’d rather have on your team. I’ll hang up and listen.

@StevenS2313 OPS is skewed towards power. The higher slugging percentage you have the more likely you'll have a higher OPS. Nearly everyone in the top 10 in slugging is also top 10 in OPS vice versa. Kurtz isnt top 10 in slugging but is top 10 in OPS. So yes, OPS is skewed towards power

It doesn't mean "more productive". That's why RBIs exist. It simply measures power. Not productivity

@StevenS2313 What we do know are players with high average and high OPS are the most productive hitters (see Yordon or Judge in the past). OPS has a place along with average. Saying it's superior is short-sighted at best. It just measures power

@Guy25Rando12987 This makes zero sense, though. Like come on, man…. They both have an OBP of .350. That means they get on base the exact same amount of times. But the guy with the lower batting average hits more home runs and doubles. Batting average is important. But you are way too tied to it.

@StevenS2313 I'll take the guy with a .300 average and .350 obp because he gets on base for others to drive him in. As you mention, teams need both guys. Both have value to clubs. The league and the fans used to understand this basic concept.

@Guy25Rando12987 And I do think having guys who do both on your team is valuable. As a Cubs fan, having guys like Nico Hoerner is helpful to this team, though he’s having a down year. But someone like him needs to hit .300 to be valuable because he’s a contact guy who rarely walks or hits homers.

@Guy25Rando12987 I guess we will agree to disagree. A person who hits .300 with a .350 OBP with a bunch of singles and some doubles and a couple home runs sprinkled in is not in the same class as a hitter with a .270 BA , .350 OBP, and a bunch of extra base hits. Both are valuable and good.

@Guy25Rando12987 And if you really want to use RBIs to measure productivity, look at the top RBI guys every year and their OPS. It’s almost like having a high OPS is also going to mean you’re usually driving in lots of runs. Because doubles and home runs drive more runs in than singles.

@Guy25Rando12987 Okay, how about the word impactful? You’re impacting the game more and creating more scoring opportunities with extra base hits. RBIs aren’t a perfect window into productivity either. I do think some guys have more “clutch”. But it’s also reflective of guys on base before you.

@LVSLennyy @kyhighs OPS is on base + slugging. Let me spell it out like I would to a kid. Batting average contributes to your on base %. Hits contribute to your slugging percentage. It’s a super easy stat to understand if you know anything about baseball. You probably know very little, though.
