MOVIES I’VE NEVER SEEN #14 The Wolf of Wall Street (2013) Leonardo DiCaprio, Margot Robbie Some call it a wild, dark comedy about greed, others say it was already dated when it appeared (or is that the point?) Should I watch? Convince me: YES or NO—and why.

1/x Imagine an oil tanker runs aground near your shores and the resultant oil spill creates around $22million in damages (in 1967) but because of a law, dating back to 1851, the ship owner liability is limited to $50.

@BartGonnissen @JJanegle A lot of perishable cargo was lost of course. Perishable foodstuffs were also pilfered by locals or 'liberated' by crews and shared amongst the vessels.

1/x In June 1967, during the Six-Day War between Israel and Egypt, Egyptian forces blocked the Suez Canal by sinking ships, laying mines, and filling it with debris to prevent Israeli use. A northbound convoy of 15 cargo vessels became trapped.

19/x The Great Bitter Lake Association formally disbanded as the ships dispersed. Crews who had rotated through the fleet over eight years, around 3,000 men in total spent time aboard, returned to normal lives.

The final docking of Royal Iris of The Mersey at Liverpool Landing Stage. Farewell, lass. After 67 years, you definitely deserve a rest. The Royal Iris of the Mersey actually started life in 1959 as the MV Mountwood, spending decades as a proper Birkenhead commuter workhorse. It wasn't until a massive £2 million makeover at Cammell Laird in 2001 that she was renamed to keep the "Royal" title alive on the river-a rare honor granted to the ferry fleet for bravery during the 1918 Zeebrugge Raid. If you watch the 1965 film Ferry Cross the Mersey or the opening of The Liver Birds, you are seeing this boat in her original form. Her biggest modern claim to fame was carrying the Olympic Torch in 2012. As of today, March 29, 2026

@SimonMcCoyTV It is adaptive cruise and intelligent speed limiters reading signs on side roads or even trucks/vans. There’s a 30 sign on the side road to Channel tunnel along the M20 near J12 that my speed limiter always reads, same as a 20 at the port of Dover bridge yet the bride is 30.

Have noticed a lot more random braking on motorways lately. It’s dangerous and causes others to brake. Is it because drivers of electric vehicles using regenerative braking don’t realise their brakes lights come on when they take their foot off the accelerator? Just a thought….

3/x The ECA project includes a 2nd tidal dock next to the current Deurganckdok. 3,130m of quayside will be added for seagoing vessels, while for inland shipping, it concerns 750 meters. In total, this will create 81 hectares of additional container handling capacity.

@BartGonnissen Yes. Too often problem vessels are just moved on somewhere else. No port authority wants an abandoned hulk on their berth. But it’s obvious this vessel is unseaworthy and shouldn’t sail anywhere. When the owner stops providing money conditions on board are grim for the crew.

21/x What will happen to the crew? What will happen to the vessel? CEYO is not a lone case. There are hundreds of CEYOs sailing around. We wave with PSC authority, but in the end, it's about getting this vessel out of our own waters and making it someone else's problem.
